It was sad watching a documentary of the “Tres Marias” by Jessica Soho. They are 3 sisters living together in a remote area in the Philippines. Their bodies are somewhat disfigured with stiff fingers and protruding lumbar. They are also too small or short for the normal Filipino body size. Here are the medical facts of the condition:

Dwarfism

Dwarfism is a condition of short stature. It is defined by the advocacy group Little People of America (LPA) as an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches or under, as a result of a medical or genetic condition. Although other groups may extend the criteria for certain forms of dwarfism to 5 feet, the average height of an adult with dwarfism is 4 feet.  http://children.webmd.com/dwarfism-causes-treatments

Knowing about the dwarfism condition helps a lot in understanding those affected individuals. A mere gaze can make them feel an outcast of our society. They must be treated as normal people – because most of them are capable of living a normal life. They can have average IQ, they can function to take care of themselves for their daily chores but only a little different physically. If you see one, just control your excitement and act as normal as possible.
