It has been made known by the local Philippine media that President Noynoy Aquino has been inviting Grace Poe over for some political discussions. According to GMA News, Senator Grace Poe confirmed that President Benigno Aquino III asked her to go around the country with Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, who’s supposedly the Liberal’s presidential bet but still suffers bad survey rating against Binay unlike Poe.
On another follow-up news from GMA, Grace Poe confirmed via text message that President Benigno Aquino III met with Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero last Thursday hoping they will be united during the 2016 polls. However, there’s still no clear positioning among these three candidates; Mar, Grace and Chiz. If Grace and Chiz stick on their plan to retain their tandem, the big problem for the Liberal Party and for Pnoy is – what to do with Mar Roxas?
So why is Pnoy or the Liberal Party so hot on Grace Poe? Aside from winning the senatorial race because of her late father’s popularity, Fernando Poe, Jr., she has not really showed any achievements in the senate. Poe chairs the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs that led the chamber’s inquiry into the “misencounter” in Mamasapano town in Maguindanao that left 44 police Special Action (SAF) troopers, 18 Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters, and five civilians dead. The investigation is either halted or going nowhere. It simply went quiet amidst reports that talks are going on between Pnoy and Grace Poe.Can Poe really hold Pnoy accountable if proven to have involvement in the failure of the confidential operation as Commander in Chief?
