The rumors of the plot to assassinate President-elect Rodrigo Duterte and incoming Philippine National Police head, Chief Supt. Ronald de la Rosa was denied by the 16 so-called VIP inmates in Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa. They expressed their fears that some people might be using them for public conditioning to cover up the anomalies happening there. This was the content of their letter sent to Justice Secretary Emmanuel Caparas through their lawyer Ferdinand Topacio.
The letter was signed by Jaime Patcho, German Agojo, Mario Tan, Jerry Pepino, Engelberto Durano, Rodel Castellano, Tomas Donina, Noel Martinez, Eustaquio Cenita, Herbert Colangco, Jojo Baligad, Clarence Dongail, Rico Caja, Joel Capones, Gilberto Salguero and Edgar Sayo Cinco. Six of them namely; Agojo, Durano, Martinez, Colangco, Baligad and Capones were moved from the NBP to the National Bureau of Investigation compound in 2014 – after the discovery of money, drugs and luxury items inside some apartment – like prison cells. They were then returned to the NBP last year but in a highly secured Building 14.
The are afraid that the process of their liquidation has started to shut them up from disclosing on what they knew about the previous NBP officials’ corrupt undertakings. They are also offended by their ‘high-profile inmates’ label which has no basis as per the letter. They criticized the spread of the rumor which has escalated through social media and picked up by commercial media.
