In inaugural speech of 71-year-old President Rodrigo Roa Duterte implied that there’s a “deeper and more serious” problem than corruption, crime, and drugs – and that is the erosion of faith by the people towards the Philippine government.
Duterte asked Congress and the Commission on Human Rights or CHR to allow him “a level of governance that is consistent to our mandate” – a signal to give him a free hand to address problems of ordinary Filipinos, particularly drugs and criminality; as reported by CNN Philippines.
His fight against drugs and criminality might be relentless but sustainable within the bounds of the law. He is aware that some quarters view his anti-crime methods as unorthodox and illegal, but as a lawyer and former prosecutor, Duterte said that he knows the limits of the power and authority of the president. He knows what is legal and what is not; the President said during his inauguration speech.
