Puzzled with the Liberal protesters on the burial of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, former Vice President Jejomar Binay disclosed that the surviving Marcos family had approved his recommendation that for the former President’s Batac City interment in Ilocos Norte with full military honors.
Binay’s spokesperson Joey Salgado said that it was Binay who was tasked by former President Benigno Aquino III to study a House resolution seeking the burial of Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City in 2011. Binay’s inquiry included consultations with various sectors including the relatives of the late President as basis of his recommendation for Marcos’s burial in Batac.
Binay however said that Pnoy just put it aside and failed to act on it until their their turnover to the new administration that supported Salgado’s statementsaying; “In June 2011, VP Binay submitted to Aquino his recommendation to allow the burial of Marcos in Batac, Ilocos Norte. The former VP noted that the burial of Marcos in Batac had the approval of the Marcos family.” “However, Aquino did not act on the recommendation. This has led to new conflicts again when these can be buried in oblivion long time ago.
Despite being a martial law human rights lawyer, the former Vice President supported a hero’s burial for the late strongman at the heroes’ cemetery backing Duterte’s reasoning that
Marcos was “qualified” to be buried at the heroes’ cemetery because he was a former President and soldier. The protesters are allegedly worried that Marcos’s hero’s burial would erase his pending cases which is basically a sign of social illness.
