UK’s precautionary measures had led to the capture of Islamic terror suspects. This is good intelligence work. Sky News reported here:
The hearing comes after a bomb disposal unit was used “as a precaution” during a large-scale police raid in Birmingham.
Four alleged Islamist extremists charged with a plot to attack the UK have appeared in court.
The men, all from the Midlands, were arrested two weeks ago as a bomb disposal unit was sent in during the search of a house.
Police said later the Army unit was deployed “as a precaution” as parts of Birmingham city centre were cordoned off.
The men, all bearded, sat side by side in the dock at Westminster Magistrates’ Court and chatted before being asked to confirm their name, date of birth and address.
They are all charged with preparing for acts of terrorism in the UK between May and August this year.
Naweed Ali, 28, and Khobaib Hussain, 24, are from the Sparkhill area of Birmingham and Mohibur Rahman, 31, and Tahir Aziz, 37, are from Stoke-on-Trent.
They did not ask for bail and will appear again at the Old Bailey on 19 September.
The hearing lasted five minutes.
A fifth suspect, who was arrested with the four, was previously released with no further action.
