Bongbong Marcos and wife, Liza Araneta-Marcos were bashed when their images emerged in social media riding the MRT before the 2016 elections. The couple had to ride the MRT because of traffic and the two had to catch the Crosby Stills & Nash concert held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. To them, this is a practical alternative. Their supporters eagerly posted their pictures on Facebook and quickly picked up my mainstream media. Is it their fault that this basic act is news to others? The questions is, how far have we gone with the improvement taken after the new administration vowed to see the increased capacity using longer trains in mid to the 3rd quarter of 2017. Are we on track?

[VIDEO]: PRESIDENT DUTERTE ON MRT CURRENT PROBLEM
The Department of Transportation Strategy
Lat Oct. 2016, the DOTr said that commuters need to wait for another year to experience improved services at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3). The procurement of power supply that would allow a four-car train configuration or deployment of longer trains DOTr at that time is still pending. Undersecretary Noel Kintanar explains that a four-car train configuration would increase the capacity of passengers by 33 percent.
Trains from China
Kintanar said that they expect the additional 12 Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co. of China trains to arrive on schedule in January 2017. The trains must be equipped with onboard signaling system and must undergo a 1,500-kilometer check before usage. The two trains delivered last December cannot be used yet due to signaling protocol. There are around 48 coaches ordered from Dalian.
First in Asia
Bongbong Marcos was not impressed during his last MRT ride saying that we are the first country in Asia to have a Light Railway Transit system, that expanded into the MRT. He mentioned some disappointments over the malfunction of air-conditioning, lack of toilets, long lines in purchasing tickets, crowded and difficult for the passengers, especially during rush hours. The Aquino administration under the management of Mar Roxas just did not do a good job here – probably because a Marcos initiated this transportation system.
Slight Progress for another Bongbong Marcos Challenge?
Under the new administration, a blogger reported some improvements with the LRT-MRT lines. Like the escalators at the Magallanes MRT Station that are now functioning. MRT-3 installed 27 brand new elevators in most stations for the convenience of passengers. Aside from the 27 new units, five more are installed at North Avenue Station (NB), Ortigas Station (SB), Buendia Station (Concourse), and Ayala Station (SB). Ticketing is made easier through the Beep Card. MRT-3 is also able to roll out a maximum of 22 trains during peak hours since Nov 29. Dedicated janitorial services for all MRT stations, and FREE WIFI in 6 stations by end of January 2017 are also promised. Will Bongbong Marcos and his wife take the challenge to check that out again?
