Pimentel reacts to Senator Kiko Pangilinan’s statement that the President’s plan to replace elected barangay officials with appointees is a copy-cat of Marcos authoritarian ideologies. He insists that the administration’s party PDP-Laban is for Federalism and not for an Authoritarian rule. Even Marcos loyalists refuse to accept the Dictator label of Marcos since his policies are always online with the constitution.

An Insult to PDP-Laban
Rule of Law
Following the law nowadays has become optional only as per the president. Pimentel agrees with this. There should be a political will in enforcing the law. Part of the law is the Constitution, so due process, respect for human life that must be observed. That’s why police officials are cautioned to go all-out in the war against drugs because there is anti-drug law, he said. They should implement the law with respect because the bill of rights also exists, he added.
Not Marcos Martial Law
So the ideology of the President is the ideology of the party and the party’s ideology is not like martial law during the time of the late president Ferdinand E. Marcos. We were born to fight the martial law regime,” Pimentel discloses. This pronouncement even created much disagreement from the pro-Marcos faction.
No Congress Intervention
The Senate leader also corrects Pangilinan’s statement that the ouster of anti-death penalty lawmakers from their key posts in the House of Representatives was a “disturbing indicator of authoritarianism. He stressed that while the President had strong opinions on specific issues, he never attempts to intervene in the affairs of the Congress.
