Ilocos Norte’s Governor Imee Marcos voluntarily asked the President is she could join his Middle East delegation to check on the situation of her OFW constituents there. This is to address concerns among their families back home on their real plight. There are many reports on abuses of these migrant workers, particularly via social media.

[VIDEO]: Pre-departure statement of the President for the state visit to the Middle East
Imee Marcos’ Love for her Constituents
Imee Marcos said that she made the request because many of her constituents are working in the Middle East. There are many Ilocanos, especially women are working in the Middle East and they are important to her. It is best to check on them at first hand.
The President is bound for his state visits to 3 Middle Eastern countries this week. This is to check on the situation of overseas Filipino workers. Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Hjayceelyn Quintana said that Du30 will visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from April 10 to 12, the Kingdom of Bahrain from 12 to 14, and the State of Qatar from 14 to 16.
Other Foreign Trips
Marcos also explained her participation in the Du30 administration in the past foreign trips in China and Singapore. She said that her parents had close relations with China from the start in the 70’s. She had lived in Singapore as well – that’s why she’s familiar with the businesses there.
Rumors have it that Imee Marcos is bound for a political favor from the president for allegedly financing him during the elections. Marcos denied this and clarified that the only support he had given to Du30 was through local campaigns.
