President Du30 Responded to Robredo’s Constitution Challenge as De Castro Vies for Supreme Court CJ Post

President Rodrigo Du30 rejects Vice President Leni Robredo as his successor. Robredo challenges him to follow the constitution. Although, she may not be the legitimate VP. She allegedly won because of the PCOS manipulation. Besides, Du30 does not think she can improve anything in the country. Only leaders like the VP Protestant Bongbong Marcos or Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero can take his place, he said. Robredo claimed that she defeated both candidates. This is despite the massive evidence of fraud found against her. She seems to forget the nature of Du30. Note that the line of succession is already Marcos-friendly. This is with Senate President Tito Sotto and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.  That secures Marcos’ VP post in case of Robredo’s impeachment. SolGen Jose Calida’s Quo Warranto Petition is another alternative. All these happen as Associate Justice Teresita de Castro vies for Supreme Court Chief Justice.

Inability to Lead

President Du30 is trusting the military to find a new capable head of state. “They are the only organizations that can control the situation when everything breaks loose,” Du30 says. He trusts the military much more than he does Robredo. Case in point is Naga City, Robredo’s City, which is a hotbed for crime and illegal drugs.

Robredo’s Camp Lashes Back

Robredo’s camp believes that Duterte’s endorsements are not all that valuable. Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s Spokesperson, cites two of Duterte’s appointees. Former tourism secretary, Wanda Teo, garnered the outrage of the public when she had a multimillion-peso ad placed in her brother’s show. She immediately resigned, though. Now, NFA chief Jason Aquino is under fire by senators as the price of NFA rice increases.

Preferred Successors

Chiz Escudero and Bongbong Marcos are the preferred successors of President Du30. However, Marcos is the only one who has constitutional rights to take over his position through his electoral protest. Hinting at a resignation in May, Du30 is banking that Robredo can be impeached and have either the House Speaker or the Senate President serve as temporary replacement. Their tenure as VP is until Marcos’ Protest pushes through and he is declared the real winner.

Alleged Fraud in the 2016 Elections

Various officials have already made references to the alleged fraud in the 2016 elections. These public servants include members of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, among other politicians close to the president. Marcos has identified pilot provinces in his protest to which the Supreme Court, standing as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal is now conducting a recount.

The SolGen’s Tactic with the Supreme Court

Apart from the frustration of not being able to fulfill his number one promise, to end corruption, Du30’s only concern is his doubts about Robredo’s competence. He could step down if Robredo is removed as his successor. This would secure the post for Marcos with Sotto and Arroyo in the line of succession. However, there is still Solicitor General Calida who might come up with a brilliant tactic. We can remember his Quo Warranto Petition on the issue of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. Saying that she was not qualified for the position in the first place. Therefore, her appointment can be void as voted against her by the majority of the magistrates including De Castro. How much more if she becomes the Supreme Court Chief Justice?
