Sandro Marcos’ Birthday Coincides with the $400 Million ADB Loan to Help the Philippines Purchase COVID-19 Vaccines
Loan Grant and Sandro Marcos
The Philippines became the first recipient of financing support under the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Asia Pacific Vaccine Access Facility (APVAX). This marks the approval of a $400 million loan to help the country purchase safe and effective vaccines against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The ADB connects with the World Bank that the late President Ferdinand Marcos built the country’s credit facility with. It may just be a coincidence that this happens a few days after Sandro Marcos’ birthday. But still very significant for people who knew the background of the said international financial support system.
Padapadakam Tradition in Ilocos Norte
Flower-gifting to the adult birthday celebrant that signals the service to the people is a tradition in Ilocos Norte. It’s called Padapadakam. The young Marcos was uncomfortable at first but got used to it as fellow Ilocanos took turns in doing the ritual. His father explains his son’s commitment to helping Filipinos as they all do.
The Marcoses’ Commitment to the People
BBM’s vlog triggers various questions like; Is Sandro running for public office? As shown in the video, his visits to the House of Representative and Congressman Martin Romualdez were featured. This can be a hint for something in the next national elections. BBM himself became a congressman in his 20’s. Sandro is 27 years old now. This could be a fresh start for the Marcoses. As they know well Philippines’ loan standing with these creditors.
