[VIDEO]: The Supreme Court sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) has started the ball rolling on the electoral protest of former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the counter-protest of Vice President Leni Robredo.
Garcia Corrects Macalintal
Atty. Garcia disputes the earlier disclosure of Macalintal that the Marcos Camp has yet to answer their questions in Bongbong Marcos’ manifestations with regards to the witnesses and many other details. Marcos’ legal counsel stresses that PET orders to open the ballot boxes first before the presentation of witnesses can be discussed contrary to what Robredo’s lawyer said.
In a 5-page Resolution dated 8 August 2017, the PET prescribes the rules. These include the composition, screening, and hiring of members of the Revision Committees. The creation of an Exploratory Mission or Retrieval Team, as well as the compensation of those who take part in the actual revision of ballots, are also set.
Election Recount Facilities
The Tribunal also approves the use of the SC Gymnasium in the revision proceedings. It also adds two more areas; a portion of the Fourth Floor Parking Level of the SC-Court of Appeals Multi-Purpose Building and a room at the back of the Division Hearing Room as the venues for the election protest recount.
As for the members of the Revision Committees, the Tribunal amends Rules 39(b) of the 2010 PET Rules. It requires that each Revision Committee must compose of a Coordinator who shall be a lawyer, a Recorder and a Representative. Each must come from both camps. It also stresses for the parties to designate their respective alternative representatives.
