BBM: Getting Rid of Pollution during the Pandemic
The Good Thing about Coronavirus Pandemic
Bongbong Marcos said that the people are getting a taste of pollution-free earth again during the Coronavirus pandemic. The skies are clear, the air is fresh, and it’s quite everywhere. Anchorman, Choy Torralba added that according to the CNN Weather Report, the pollution status in Manila is already good.
A Climate Change Advocate
Marcos is already a climate change advocate since the former US Vice President Al Gore’s time. Gore calls for a united global action to mitigate the effects of climate change. Then-Senator Marcos pushes the integration of climate change mitigation in all aspects of governance in the country. However, only the drastic measures against the Coronavirus pandemic works wonders.
Learning from the Natural Disasters
Marcos said that government infrastructure projects should be resilient to natural calamities brought about by climate change. He cites the 2015 report of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction saying that the Philippines is the fourth in the world among countries hit by the highest number of disasters. The sufferings from super-typhoon Yolanda should be enough to remind us.
He notes that many of the casualties of Yolanda lost their lives in evacuation centers. Strong winds and the storm surge were the culprits. No one could ever imagine how storm surges can be as bad as tsunamis.
