Unresolved murder cases involving people who are against the communist party in power has been rising. This coincides with the disturbing report by former Canadian lawmaker David Kilgour and human rights lawyer David Matas as supported by journalist Ethan Gutmann. They were quoted as saying that China has been harvesting organs from executed prisoners for secret transplants in a large scale. This has reached the international media scene through CNN.
The Chinese government, the Communist Party, the health system, doctors and hospitals are conniving in this operation; they said. Legal transplants are about 10,000 per year. But the number of transplants already exceeded that from only 2 or 3 hospitals; Matas said. Around 60,000 to 100,000 organs are being transplanted each year in Chinese hospitals based on their rough estimate. Prisoners with religious or political offenses were allegedly executed whose deaths are not properly reported to satisfy the needs for transplants.
Willing organ donors around Asia are now a thing of the past in China with the alleged supply from prison cells. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying denied the report saying; China has “strict laws and regulations on this issue.” “As for the testimony and the published report, I want to say that such stories about forced organ harvesting in China are imaginary and baseless — they don’t have any factual foundation,” she said. The National Health and Family Planning Commission is still mum about the issue.
