DOH warns against heat stroke this summer

By: Leonard T. Pineda

Dr. Elvie Villalobos, DOH-6 Infectious Disease Cluster Head, said that heat stroke is the most severe form of heat illness when the body overheats and cannot cool down.

“The body cannot take off the excessive heat by sweating because of dehydration or the humid environment,” he said.

Do not under estimate the advice to drink a lot of water. It’s not just the normal eight glasses of water a day habit but a lot more water is needed by the body – because they can be easily evaporated due to the intense  heat. Do not prolong or even avoid direct sun exposure at this time. Cool your body down by showering often or apply a damp towel on your skin for a cooler feel! If symptoms of heat stroke is observed, apply the first aid discussed in the article before immediate hospital send off.
