Duterte’s war on drugs: Mimics Thailand’s Failed Campaign by Shinawatra

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
Former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra’s all-out-war on drugs did not please King Bhumibol Adulyadej despite his numerous claims of successes. In fact, this led to his demise and exile due to human rights violations committed by the Thai law enforcers under his command.

Duterte and Shinawatra ended up having the same nature for their advocacy which are:
– 3 to 6 months completion period
– shoot to kill policy
– local street dealers killed but not major drug lords
– tough announcements of threats
– false claims of accomplishments

The U.N. General Assembly even concluded that “The world has now surrendered to drugs, and has to come to think to live with drugs.” This proves that Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto knows what he’s talking about when he said that – despite killing all drug criminals, the problem will not stop there. Abusers will just switch to another drug to abuse. Therefore, they need to be rehabilitated.
