By: Elena Grace Flores The country’s health care system is still far behind international standards. Bongbong Marcos’ vlog recently features a young Filipino lady’s situation. She signifies the plight of common Filipinos regardless of their financial status. While there are public hospitals for the indigents, the middle class is limited to their health cards from work. This goes to the rich as well. Once a chronic disease strikes, any reserves for medical purposes can easily run out. Such is a big flaw medically-speaking. All citizens must have the right to have access to the best suitable treatment with or without cash. z

BBM’s Medical Mission
Bongbong Marcos’ medical mission in Binan, Laguna benefits 400 to 500 people. He also conducts a contest online asking subscribers to give the best health tips to a busy person like him. A hoodie is at stake for the lucky winners. Athena is one of the lucky contestants. Marcos looks forward to having more face to face interactions with ordinary citizens.
Athena Lives with Cerebral Palsy
Marcos’ promising guest, Athena, suffers from Cerebral palsy. It is a group of permanent movement disorders that appear in early childhood. She arrives at the meeting venue in a wheelchair. Despite her disability, she impresses the former Senator for her enthusiasm in life. She remains active contributor online and even writes a book.
Decent Health Care System for the People
Sickness or diseases are problems of the nation. This should not be solitary to the family of the affected patients. While public hospitals try to accommodate the low to medium class Filipinos, they can only provide hospital services. Medicines are out of the pocket or given by the local government if lucky. Employees with health cards enjoy the benefits of limited insurance. Not knowing that in the middle of a critical surgery, its coverage can be denied.
Appropriate Treatment With or Without Cash
It is understood that private hospitals must have deposits to be able to perform the necessary procedure needed by a patient. The government has no control over this because it is commercial. They cannot continue to operate if their business is losing. This is the same reason why medical establishments like hospitals must not be privatized. Citizens must have access to quality treatments with or without cash.
Health Tips to Bongbong Marcos
A busy person like BBM has nothing to worry about if he can sleep well at night. Philippine leaders who have the heart to serve their constituents can only have this privilege when their people can seek the appropriate medical services without worrying about money. All hospitals must pass the international standards for all citizens to avail of, rich or poor. Many people are banking on Bongbong Marcos to make this happen in the Philippines.
