The Annulmentof Mindanao Votes can Result to Marcos’ Lead

Leonen Acts

Ferdinand Marcos or Bongbong Marcos explains that Robredo’s lead is “not mathematically insurmountable.” So his third cause of action has great relevance. To annul the election results in the 3 Mindanao provinces means that he can already surpass the presumptive VP’s advantage of 263,473 votes. Robredo stands to lose 497,985 votes when this happens. Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Victor Leonen finally starts to act on Marcos’ electoral protest against Robredo. The final ruling might happen at the tail end of the VP term but the people have the right to know the results of their votes for the upcoming election.

The Supreme Court Ruling Re-starts

Leonen finally issues a draft ruling. This circulates on the same day with a recommendation for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG). The goal is to issue their respective comments on the pending issues. The major decision for them to make is for the PET to proceed with the third cause of action. This is the annulment of votes in the Mindanao provinces. The 3rd cause of action may prove that there was indeed cheating with regards to the camp of Robredo.

Possible Denial of Due Process

Marcos stresses that he has a right to prove and establish his third cause of action. A denial of this will impair his right to due process. That is why delaying tactics seem redundant at the Supreme Court according to political analysts in favor of Marcos. The camp of Robredo, however, welcomes this development to allegedly fast-track the resolution to the case. Meanwhile, netizens express their dismay over the opposition’s desire to unseat President Rodrigo Roa Duterte who is fond of Marcos. A lot of them swear to rally if Marcos gets cheated again in the 2022 elections.
