Law Dean Calls on Congress Not to Abuse Power on Imee Marcos

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Jose Vicente Opinion, dean of Eastern Samar State University College of Law and former IBP governor supports the CA. Opinion urges the Congress to recall their show cause order against the three justices who orders to release the six provincial officials who are detained for over a month after. They are cited in contempt by lawmakers in the probe on the capitol’s alleged misuse of the tobacco excise tax.

Prevent Constitutional Crises

Opinion warns that constitutional crisis can arise according to the action of the Congress. “There is a separation of power among the three branches of government. If the House of Representatives continues to disregard the lawful orders of the Court of Appeals, there will really be a constitutional impasse,” he clarified.

Supreme Court Backs CA

Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno and CA Presiding Justice Andres Reyes Jr. also made a similar statement. They call on the House leaders to retract the show cause order. Instead, consider legal remedies under the Rules of Court to question the CA orders. This can include possible intervention by the Supreme Court.

Not Listening to Law Experts

The IBP and Philippine Bar Association also rallied behind the CA. Opinion is also in one with the Philippine Constitution Association for the Supreme Court to intervene in the conflict between the CA and the House Committee. It is evident that the Congress is quiet right now and no actions are evident yet.

Gov. Marcos Need Not to Attend Hearing

Ilocos Norte players told Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos not to attend the hearing on July 25. This is the same advice given by her brother, Bongbong Marcos. Marcos supporters are aghast when the Congress publicizes the detention room prepared for Marcos. “What is the purpose of going there to attend if in the end, they will not believe what she will say and their real intention is to detain Governor Imee?” Philip Terry of BBM-POGI asks.

  1. In publishing the intended detention room of Gov Imee Marcos, the Congressmen only betrayed their ulterior motive in requiring her to attend their hearing in aid of abuse of power.

  2. Good observation. The congress is becoming abusive not only to 6 ilocos and Imee but to the judicial branch that should handle cases of complaints.

  3. Isn’t it what Gov. Imee Marcos did on the tobacco tax was already done by Farinas during his time?
So why is he complaining about this when he himself did this?
Farinas and Alvarez are leaving a bad taste in our mouth for making a real hig issue about this when there is a much bigger problem this country is going through and yet why this two Congressmen not pursuing the problem involving thier relatives for the misuse of funds that is being talked about?

  4. TOO BAD… There are some People Abusing Their Given Power BY THE PEOPLE & NOT FOR THE PEOPLE.. LEST … THEY NEVER REALIZED THEMSELVES …. Hehehehehe
