Marcos or Robredo?: VP race awaits Canvass starting May 25

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
The House of Representatives and the senate will hold a joint session this week to at least start the formal canvassing of votes for both president and vice president. This is expected to clear out the unofficial partial results of the vice presidency race between Senator Bongbong Marcos and congresswoman Leni Robredo of the Liberal Party.

Both branches of government will form the national board of canvassers or NBOC on May 24, 2016 so on May 25 the official vote canvassing should already start.

Although there’s no question with Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte’s massive lead, a close race for the vice presidency is creating a turmoil between Robredo and Marcos’s supporters. The unofficial count indicates Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo’s lead at 200,000 votes against Senator Ferdinand Marcos, but not including 100 percent of the precincts, so it can turn around at any time when all Certificates of Canvass are accounted for – especially in the areas of mindanao where questionable activities happened in favor of the administration’s bet.
