Former Vice President Jejomar Binay was recently indicted by the Office of the Ombudsman on recently but Ombudsman still not happy with ith because akl cases are bailable. 73-year-old Binay and his son, former Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay, were on bail on the graft, malversation and falsification of public documents over irregularities in the contracts they allegedly entered into on the city’s behalf for the Makati City Hall Building II.

Joey Salgado, Binay’s spokeperson blamed its filing on Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales and to her “undying loyalty to her Liberal Party party.” “This is a diversionary move intended to shield political patrons from public indignation,” Salgado said.

Binay was indicted on four violations of Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, malversation and nine counts of falsification of public documents.

All the charges are bailable. Prosecutors set Binay’s bail at P40,000 for malversation, P30,000 for each count of graft and P24,000 for each count of falsification, for a total of P376,000.

On top of this, Binay has also been charged by the Ombudsman with plunder over the alleged overpricing in the contracts, but the Ombudsman is still trying to find ways to pin him down since they have no evidence that will stand in court.

The Binays denied all accusations against them while facilitating such transactions under their leadership. In fact, the people of Makati have supported their bid that made them gain back Makati as Binay territory through the mayoralty of Abby Binay and UNA’s landslide win over the elected posts in the city during the recent election. Their own residents knew them better than the Ombudsman!
