1,000 69th Infantry Battalion members who were assigned to Basilan and Sulu to partake in the anti-Abu Sayyaf training got a pat in the back by the Philippine President himself, Rodrigo Duterte.
Joined with the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion based in Compostela Valley, they had dinner with the president and proceeded to Magsaysay Park, where they had durian.
“Each one was given (a) G-Shock casio wrist watch as a sign of support from the President ;” said Secretary Christopher Lawrence Go of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President.
The wrist watches were handed by Go to the soldiers just before they finished dining, and said; “all were given one each.”
Duterte also reminded the soldiers, “We need to protect the Republic. Go after them, but also take care of yourself!”
