It’s election day again in the Philippines on May 13, 2013 and as a witness of previous vote buying incidents in some provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao, I really don’t think if the people involved really understand what disaster they’re putting their country into. I am sharing this video hoping that this will better explain the consequences of vote buying:

Vote buying has now become an old-time tradition in the Philippines and the following reasons are the common justifications of the affected voters why they end up selling their votes:
- All competing candidates are doing it anyway
- Money is scarce and 500 to 1000 pesos is not that bad – time to earn some easy money
- Even if I vote for the candidates that I think would do a better job, they won’t win anyway because I’m just a minority
- I just get the money but I don’t vote for them
There are many more reasons you can’t think of if you are only after the money – but if you have the wisdom to think about the future, you will be wiser in casting your votes – and this will be the key for a better life in the near future.
