Just after Vice President Leni Robredo announces her war gainst social media trolls and alleged misinformation, the president approves the broadband project that provides the fibre optic infrastructure for faster and reliable internet. The people can easily judge from the two leaders who is into the welfare of Filipinos and not just concern about his or her own plight.

[VIDEO]: Pagbuo ng isang National Government Portal at National Broadband Plan, inaprubahan ng Presidente.
National Government Portal and National Broadband Plan
The approval happens during the recent Cabinet meeting. This is after Information and Communications Technology Secretary Rodolfo Salalima gives his presentation. He said that the President approves the establishment of a National Government Portal and a National Broadband Plan during the 13th Cabinet Meeting in Malacañang.
Improve Internet Speed
Piñol discloses that the president would like DICT “to develop a national broadband plan to accelerate the deployment of fibre optics cables and wireless technologies to improve internet speed.” As per Salalima’s promise last year that 2017 marks faster Internet for social media-loving Filipinos, this move is a step towards its fulfilment. DICT proposes the set up of a national broadband network that primarily caters to rural areas. The project is about P200 billion and takes three years to complete.
Current Internet Speed Status
The Philippines is ranked to be among countries with the lowest Internet speed. An Internet Report releases such status last year. It is by U.S.-based content delivery network Akamai Technologies Inc. In the third quarter of 2016, it has an average connection speed of 4.2 Mbps. The rank is at 103rd globally. South Korea have the fastest Internet speed worldwide. It averages at 26.3 Mbps.
The main job of the government is to govern to make the people’s lives better. Who do you think is doing the job? The president who is upgrading the internet infrastructure to those who cannot afford the online technology to help advance their opportunities in social and work fields – or the Vice President he is more concerned with the social media attacks against her? In fact, one of her alleged anti-poverty campaigns she launches in Cebu is collecting tear-jerker stories to be posted online in lieu of negative political issues. Fast internet speed is not only for social media but most of all, a perfect aid for online workers and IT businesses crucial for the success of most industries in today’s world.
