Does the Congress Insinuates that It also Doubts Robredo’s VP Election Victory?

congress

By: Elena Grace Flores

Even the Congress as the National Board of Canvassers that proclaims Leni Robredo as the VP winner in 2016 is in doubt until now if she really wins it. Congressman Vicente Veloso asked; Can we submit this Republic to that uncertainty? Are we sure that it is Robredo who is the Vice President? The question emerges as lawmakers are rooting VP out in the line of succession. This is contrary to the over-confident advice of Atty. Romulo Macalintal to Bongbong Marcos. He urges the latter to drop his electoral protest. President Du30’s resignation will never happen because Mr. Marcos will never win his electoral protest,” said Robredo’s lead lawyer. However, BBM camp’s spokesperson, Atty. Vic Rodriguez said that Macalintal is under false pretense because why would he urge Marcos on numerous occasions to let go of the protest if they are not guilty of digital fraud?

Ambitious Macalintal

‘Since when did a pending election protest become the basis of succession to the highest position of the land?’ asks Robredo’s election lawyer. He is also running for Senator in the 2018 Midterm elections. On his election bid, he says that he will push for the rights of senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Robredo Camp’s Belief

Robredo’s team expresses confidence in the face of Malacañang’s statement that President Du30 will step down if the former senator wins his poll protest against her. Du30’s resignation will never happen because Marcos will never win his electoral protest, said Macalintal.

True to His Word

The President thinks that the former Senator is one of the better-qualified leaders to succeed him and if there’s development and he will win the protest and he becomes vice president, yes he will make true to his word,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque told reporters earlier before his rumored resignation as the Presidential spokesperson.

Mac Criticizes the President

Macalintal criticizes Du30 saying that he’s willing to step down except that he does not think if the constitutional successor is qualified. Marcos’ election protest is currently at the manual ballot recount stage. It covers over 5,000 clustered precincts from his three chosen pilot provinces: Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental. The results of this recount will determine whether or not Marcos’ protest will proceed with the rest of the 31,047 contested clustered precincts.

.

Senators Disagree with the Revision

Senate President Vicente Sotto III, Senate President Pro-Tempore Ralph Recto, and Minority Leader Franklin Drilon all said there’s no time to discuss the charter change. Arroyo’s proposal has no counterpart in the Senate.  A resolution calling for a separate voting of a Constituent Assembly is still pending. It has no counterpart in the House. Drilon said that before going into the details of the revisions, the Congress has to decide first whether or not to amend the Constitution and which mode to do it.

Chong the Congress Doubts

Atty. Glenn Chong, former Congressman of Biliran Island appeared before a Senate investigating committee on the 2016 Automated Elections. It revived many questions raised for all the automated elections ever held in this country since 2010. This includes the 2016 elections, of course. Right now many people are questioning the same issues in the social media network. But with the 2019 mid-term elections getting nearer and nearer, it is high time for Filipinos to exert efforts in driving Smartmatic out of the country.

Can Speaker Arroyo be Successful in her Constitution Change that Rejects Robredo as Du30’s Successor?

constitution

By: Elena Grace Flores

Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, as well as 21 other people from the House of Representatives, are making a push for a change in the Philippine constitution. They initiate a Charter Change by filing of a resolution that contains the revision. The co-authors include Rolando Andaya Jr. the Majority Leader, Vicente Veloso, Alfredo Benitez, Aurelio Gonzales Jr., and Eugene Michael de Vera among others. In this version, the Senate President will be the direct successor of the President and not the Vice President. The camp of the presumptive VP, Leni Robredo reacts immediately through Atty. Romulo Macalintal. While Bongbong Marcos’ camp is still quiet about it.

[VIDEO]: Speaker Arroyo pushes Charter Change, draft rejects Robredo as Duterte’s successor

Arroyo’s Purpose

The resolution was already sponsored for a second reading. However, there is a lack of quorum as pointed out by Buhay Representative Lito Atienza. Consequently, they’ve suspended the deliberations. One of the lawmakers involved said that the revision does not target Robredo directly. They just want to stabilize the government for the future circumstance. Arroyo’s leadership on this matter is crucial. She is a former President and a victim of the previous administration.

Temporary Succession in the Constitution Draft

Section 4 indicates the Senate President in the line of succession, as quoted. “In case a vacancy arises by reason of removal, resignation, permanent incapacity or death of the incumbent President, the incumbent Senate President shall act as President until a President shall have been chosen and qualified.”

No Office Extension for Du30

Section 2 of the article, however, prohibits both President Du30 and Robredo to run for office extension beyond June 30, 2022. Furthermore, this constitution also bars Du30 to run as President in the 2022 elections. Therefore, his detractors cannot accuse him any more of prolonging his executive powers – just like during Arroyo’s time.

Reaction from Robredo’s Camp

Robredo’s camp questions the removal of the Vice President in the line of succession on the proposed draft. As quoted earlier, Section 4 indicates the Senate President, Tito Sotto in this case, to be next in line. Atty. Macalintal who is running for Senator said that they cannot cite the electoral protest of Bongbong Marcos against his client as the basis for such revision. This also means that if it pushes through, Marcos can’t also assume the highest office of the land.

Belittling Robredo

It has always been expressed by the President that should he step down he would prefer the likes of Chiz Escudero or Bongbong Marcos to succeed him. However, with regards to Robredo, he has always shown doubt over her ability to lead the country. Robredo responds to Du30 by saying that he should stop belittling her and just concentrate on work instead.

The Favored Real VP

The revised constitution skipping the Vice President in the line of succession also applies to Marcos should he win his protest. However, there are rumors that the President intends him to be the Prime Minister under Federalism. The allies of the government are surely working hard to prevent the yellows from coming back to power – just like how their opponents cheated to stop Marcos from claiming his post.

Bongbong Marcos: Not Surprised that Mocha Uson Resigns but Wished her Well on the Congress or Senate Choices

Congress

By: Elena Grace Flores

The resignation of PCOO ASec Mocha Uson is not a surprise to Bongbong Marcos. He knows that she is never comfortable at her vacated post because the government’s detractors are always attacking her on various issues. It may be sad for Marcos to see a friend goes out of public service, he wishes her well and hopes that she can find a position where she can be happy. Previously, the sexy personality announces that the fight is not over yet for her. Uson mentions that she will bring her case to the Congress or the Senate. This prompts people to believe that she might run for Senator or Congresswoman during the mid-term elections.

[VIDEO]: This week we bid farewell to a friend in public service, and we also welcomed new friends to our circle of service.

Uson’s Resignation

The executive branch did not pressure Communications Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson to vacate her post. Although her resignation is expected to be accepted by President Rodrigo Duterte. Uson was in the United States earlier this week as part of the Philippine delegation to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Presidential Assistant, Bong Go said Uson sent her letter of resignation last Tuesday, October 2, and is already in the President’s office. Uson can run for the Congress or the Senate if she wants to. She has around 5 million followers via social media.

The Ultimate Sacrifice

Uson announces her resignation at the Senate as a “sacrifice” in exchange for the approval of the Presidential Communications Operations Office’s (PCOO) budget.  Asked if the resignation was connected to reports that Uson would be running for senator in the upcoming elections, Go said the announcement would come from Uson herself. He advises everyone to wait for her further announcement.

What Prompted the Resignation?

Go did not elaborate on the circumstances leading up to the resignation of Uson, but he said that Malacañang wishes her well. Prior to her resignation, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General Harold Clavite publicly asked Uson to step down from her post citing her failure to attend plenary deliberations on the PCOO budget.

Robredo’s Camp Happy with Uson’s Decision

The camp of the presumptive Vice President Leni Robredo said that the country did not lose anything in the resignation of Communications Assistant Secretary Uson.  Gutierrez, however, warned Uson that resigning from a government post does not exonerate her from liability over her previous actions. Robredo had been at the receiving end of Uson’s sharp criticisms in the past, at one time calling her stupid and idiot.

The Congress and Senate’s Real VP

Uson also calls Robredo “fake vice president” and identifies the former Senator Marcos as the real VP. Many Filipinos believe that the brave lady can even be more powerful without the restrictions from the government lawmakers who are critical of her. She is free to disclose everything that she knows and act in ways she deems appropriate. Another thing, she definitely establishes a good support by SAP Go and President Duterte himself aside from Marcos.

The Selfless Resignation of Mocha Uson can Lead her to Run for a Seat in the Senate or Congress

Congress

By: Elena Grace Flores

Communications Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson said she resigns from her post. This is to aid the passage of her agency’s budget. She warns critics that her fight is not yet over. She makes the sacrifice so that the PCOO budget can be passed. The avid supporter of the President also tells her detractors not to make the mistake of thinking that they won. She did not resign because she’s scared. Uson just wants to have a fair chance when she faces them may it be n the Senate or in the Congress. This triggers speculations that she might be running for Senator or Congresswoman. As what Presidential Secretary Bong Go said; Just wait for her announcement.

[VIDEO]: PCOO ASec Mocha Uson resigns after the lower House holds the agency’s budget because of her absence. She vows to bring her fight to the Senate and Congress.

Deferred PCOO Budget

The House of Representatives had deferred action on the budget of the Presidential Communications Operations Office after Uson failed to attend budget deliberations. She told a separate budget hearing at the Senate Wednesday that she missed the House hearings because she was at the United Nations General Assembly.

The Palace’s Consent

President Duterte is likely to accept Uson’s resignation, said Special Assistant to the President, Christopher “Bong” Go. We respect her resignation and we thank Asec. Mocha for her service to the Duterte government. She was a good ally, he added. Meanwhile, Presidential Chief Legal Counsel comments that it is Usons selfless act.

Congress Politics in Budget Deliberations

Uson alleged that several left-leaning congressmen were deliberately stalling the PCOO’s budge. This is after her interview with some Lumad, who claimed they were being “used” by the left against Duterte. She also slammed the lawmakers concerned for politicizing budget deliberations. Pichay also scolds top PCOO officials led by Sec. Martin Andanar. It is not known why Uson’s presence is a must when her boss himself is always present.

Wrong Accusations

Pichay and other lawmakers were upset after Andanar earlier committed to bringing Uson at the House plenary. This is to personally answer the queries of several legislators who wanted an explanation of her involvement in various controversial activities. Her personal blog particularly is the target of the inquiry.

Freedom of Speech

Uson believes that some lawmakers use their position to intimidate government agencies who are not in line with their personal agenda. She previously apologizes over a video about federalism that features dancing and another clip that upsets the deaf community. Her enemies always demand freedom of speech but they simply can’t give that to Uson.

Jojo Binay Retains Alliance with Bongbong Marcos as he Runs for the Congress

Congress

By: Elena Grace Flores

Former VP Jejomar or better known as Jojo Binay has his eyes set for Congress in the 2019 elections. Joey Salgado, Binay’s spokesperson confirms this on Monday, September 24.  His daughter, Mayor Abby Binay is also going to run with him under the United Nationalist Alliance for the same position. Another daughter, Senator Nancy Binay is the president of UNA with the family patriarch serves as its chairperson. The latter’s comment on former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile’s revelation to Bongbong Marcos is used to malign the ongoing Binay-Marcos alliance by the mainstream media. Enrile earlier said that there were no arrests made due to political beliefs during the martial law regime. The eldest of the Binay siblings stresses that the differences of perspectives are simply situational.

Rags to Riches Story is Still Hot in the Congress

With Binay’s rags-to-riches story, he garnered lots of support and made it as vice president in 2010. He then aimed higher but unfortunately lost as a presidential candidate. He finished 4th with 5,318,249 votes.

Reelectionist for Mayor

Consequently, Abigail Binay takes up after his father as Makati City Mayor. Furthermore, she also says that she will run for reelection in 2019. This was publicized as early as August of 2018. Michael Camina as Makati City Government Spokesperson also confirms this.

Kid Peña Tries his Luck Again

Former Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña is likely to be Abby’s opponent again according to Salgado. Consequently, Peña seems to be already going around the district before the official campaign period, as shown on his Facebook profile.

Binay Supports Bongbong Marcos

In the 2016 elections, UNA initially offered Bongbong Marcos the slot for vice president. Despite coming from different political parties, Binay is in an alliance with Marcos. He justifies this alliance by saying that Bongbong is not his father. Furthermore, both Abby and Bongbong were endorsees of the INC.

Controversial Alliance

The alliance of Binay and Marcos is controversial because of the political history of the two parties. Binay was even imprisoned during Martial Law as a former human rights lawyer. Furthermore, Binay was also one of the closest allies of Cory Aquino and challenged the alleged dictatorship of Marcos with her. According to political analysts, the Binay-Marcos alliance can strengthen the force against the government’s opposition in the Congress. This is why the yellow media is exerting efforts in misleading the public using Senator Binay’s comment.
