Independence from Coronavirus

True independence is not only freedom from foreign invaders. It also freedom from all obstacles to full development. Coronavirus is not an exception. This is sacrificing our personal interests, and by uniting for the well-being of the people. We will be able to overcome the obstacles we face if we do so, Bongbong Marcos said in his vlog.

The ID System

The ID system is now an essential part of a nation. Countries with an intact identification process are able to do efficient contact tracing. Errors in giving monetary assistance are not common. This is true in Makati with their Makatizen card. The funds are conveniently made available through G-Cash for voters and yellow cardholders. Contrary to scary social media posts, the ID system can indeed prevent chaos in society.

Self-Sufficiency on Supplies

Importation may help to reduce costs but this has little to do with survival. To survive a pandemic means relying on local products for the supplies especially for foods. Truly, independence from the Coronavirus can only mean living with it. Citizens must learn to practice hygiene, social distancing, and self-sufficiency. Kindness is also a must to let these difficult times pass especially to the frontliners.

BBM Endorses Bill Gates’ CNN Interview on Coronavirus

COVID-19: Dagdag Kaalaman | Bongbong Marcos

Watching out for the Coronavirus Infection Peak

Bill Gates said that mass testing is essential to determine the peak of the coronavirus infections in a country. Since this is not done properly, the quarantine procedure or lockdown can at least prevent medical facilities from overloading and exhausting doctors and nurses.

The Importance of Immediate Lockdown

Gates also explains the importance of an immediate lockdown just like what the Philippines is doing. Although it is very tough to contain the coronavirus infection in slums where people are living closely with each other, it helps in reaching the peak quickly. Thus separating the vulnerable ones from the rest of the population for proper medical management. 33% per day of new COVID-19 cases would be hard to manage where there is no shut down.

Infected or Infecting People

The light is not at the end of the tunnel yet for the coronavirus cure. However, when the majority of the people in a country develop immunity of the virus, that marks the end of the pandemic. Most people won’t even know they have it. They can be infected and infecting people without symptoms. The immunity stage is at 60% of the population but with the lockdown, hospitals can gradually treat vulnerable patients.

Coronavirus-Immune Public Servants

Senator Imee Marcos with officials of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao during the public hearing by the Senate Committee on Local Governments last Tuesday, March 10.

Meeting the BARMM Delegates

Senator Marcos made it a point to welcome the BARMM delegates at the Senate despite not having any session because of her plan to return to Mindanao soon. She features coronavirus-fearless government officials starting from the BARMM speaker to their leaders. Marcos hails their strength in not fearing the existence of the COVID-19. Instead, it seems that the coronavirus is afraid of them.

The Tausugs are Stronger than the Coronavirus

The Tausug tribe lifestyle is very masculine. Many of them are in the industries of carvings, metalworks, woodworks, tapestry, and embroidery. Mat making, basketry, textile, fashion, pottery, and other minor arts are common scenes in the area. Some are the Tausug mananasal or blacksmiths. They produce bolo, kalis, and barong (bladed weapons). They invent their own materials for their job. These manual labors and art traditions made them healthier than other Filipinos physically and mentally.

Binay hits DOH over slow dissemination of info on COVID-19 cases

Senate Interrogation on the Mishandling of COVID-19

Senator Nancy Binay on Monday criticized the Department of Health’s (DOH) supposed slow dissemination of information regarding the confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

Viber Groups are Ahead of the Coronavirus News

Senator Binay presses of the DOH official why they cannot confirm a local COVID-19 case in an area ahead of time. She at first suspects the local transmission rumor as fake news. Only to find out in the evening that it is exactly the case. A parent of one school is said to be infected with the coronavirus thus prompting the establishment to disinfect the whole campus.

The Balancing Act of the DOH Causes Public Distrust

While Binay said she understands that DOH needs to perform a “balancing act” in respecting the privacy of COVID-19 patients and being transparent with the public, she reminded officials that they should make decisions that would benefit everyone. Senator Imee Marcos earlier urges the DOH to be transparent without causing public panic. However, putting the people in limbo drives them to anxiety.

Should a Symptomatic Person Get Tested for Coronavirus Despite No Cure?

Philippines confirms 2 new COVID-19 cases

Coronavirus is Here in the Country

Many Filipinos ask if one should take a test while experiencing the coronavirus symptoms even if there’s no cure yet? Two more cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Philippines, raising the country’s total to five. Among those infected was a Filipino male who had no travel history abroad. The DOH assigns a hotline for such reports but most people are hesitant.

Clearly a Local Case

A 62-year-old diabetic also tests positive of SARS-CoV-2 despite the absence of travel. He regularly worships st the Muslim prayer room in Greenhills. The place is now disinfected. He experiences coughing with phlegm since Feb 25. This is a clear indication of local contamination. The virus is here. Although the spread is a little slow compared to other countries because it’s not heat resistant. It’s now summertime in the Philippines.

Self Isolation is the Best

In Japan, people with the symptoms of coronavirus cannot get a test from hospitals. This is to protect health practitioners as well. In Thailand, it would also cost them 10,000 Baht. So, not many can afford that. Nonetheless, if one suspects to have the virus, self-isolation is important. That means, away from anybody including close family members. Treat the symptoms accordingly like the common colds, flu, and coughs. Take loads of Vitamin C to boost the immune system. A healthy diet and regular exercise are also a big plus.

Senator Imee Marcos Seeks Transparency in the Economic Impact of Coronavirus

economic impact

By: Elena Grace Flores

Senator Imee Marcos is aware that the increasing number of coronavirus- affected individuals worldwide is very alarming. Although the country’s
Research Institute of Tropical Medicine and San Lazaro Hospital have the capability to handle contaminated patients, quarantine facilities are not enough to contain a possible outbreak. Besides, the economic impact reported is in contrast with reality, she said. The tourism sector alone suffers a great deal from restaurants to hotels. Even the flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has laid off 300 workers. This is part of the company’s efforts to mitigate the airline’s losses. Its losses in 2019 are aggravated by the ongoing travel restrictions and flight suspensions to areas affected by COVID-19.

Sen. Imee Marcos calls for more transparency on COVID19 effect on tourism

Big Tourism Problem

Senator Imee Marcos urges the government to correct the facts when it comes to the percentage of the economic impact of coronavirus on the country. The 2% figure on the economic impact just does not coincide with the actual reports she has on hand. The tourism sector alone is suffering a great deal because of the banned flights.

Economic Impact is Massive

Senator Marcos said that there are provinces that are dependent solely on tourism. This is not just about the hotels. Taxi drivers, service crews in restaurants, and many more could not generate their daily income unlike before.

Forward Planning on the Solutions

OFWs cannot travel. The Chinese tenants can vanish as well. This causes negative results for the real estate industry. Not to mention the drivers and souvenir shops. Many entities are quite affected by the epidemic. She also recommends for the Department of Tourism to have a strategic plan on how to sustain the workers who are reliant on these businesses.

World Leadership is Tested with the Coronavirus Outbreak

leadership

By: Elena Grace Flores

Italy’s inclusion in the coronavirus countries shakes the world financial markets. This is despite its relatively well-organized nature. Democracy ensures that people inside and outside the country quickly understand if a country’s containment and treatment measures are working. Good world leadership entails looking at other countries as well. Places where nutrition is worse, housing standards are weak, and disease transmission can occur much more readily must be the priority. If their health systems are not at par with international standards, then the US, Europe, and others must provide assistance with technical assistance and essential supplies.

YouTube video by Fox Business
Fox News medical correspondent Dr. Marc Siegel says the Trump administration has given the American public confidence in approaching coronavirus.

World Leadership Must Prioritize Strengthening Science

The coronavirus epidemic comes as a warning. Societies neglect access to health-care systems. Reduce investments in healthcare facilities are evident. Diseases always evolve. Continuous increase in the medical sector’s capacity to understand and fight newly emerging threats should be sustainable. The best way to do this is by strengthening science. Training more scientists, and building more labs are crucial. Countries that are able to do this like the US should share ideas and knowledge as widely as possible if leadership is there.

Investments on Scientists

Investing more in science appeals to the economic proposition. Basic research across a wide range of activities has high returns. But this is not about economics. A scientist can save lives because his or her previous work to produce a drug, treatment, or just an idea is successful. Investing in them is a great consideration. Nations are interconnected that make up the world. All countries are one when combatting an outbreak just like the coronavirus.

American Leadership

It is a subject of debate if the American leadership is not sufficient. The United States has the strongest medical-health system in the world. It is second to none in terms of capacity for research and development. Both the government and private sectors are adequate. Yet some analysts believe that President Donald Trump’s administration seems to be concerned primarily with playing down the risks. Its efforts are primarily just to keep the virus out of the US. The private sector is working hard on a vaccine that is commendable. Although, the lack of a consistent market for such vaccines undermines investment in this trade. By creating the world’s largest market for many drugs, the US effectively supports research across a wide range of ailments. However, it is observed that this is only those for which there is a large and steady demand in the US. Where is world leadership?
