Mandatory Wearing of Face Shields in Public Transportation is Anti-Poor
LTO Overkilled It
Senator Imee Marcos questions the LTO if they know the following conditions when wearing a face shield on top of the face mask:
1. Sheer discomfort – wearing a face shield over a face mask might suffocate those with medical conditions like high-blood pressure, heart ailments, or asthma.
2. Factory workers can only take a break after long hours enduring a lack of oxygen
3. Face shields with open edges may be of little use in workplaces that are enclosed and where the air that circulates is recycled.
Not Too Late to Modify Requirement
It is not too late for the government to modify its mandatory requirement on commuters and employees to start wearing face shields in addition to face masks by August 15, 2020; said Senator Imee Marcos. The government must keep an eye on profiteers taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic in the guise of increasing health protection; she added.
Lack of Official Guidelines can Corrupt the System
SRPs (suggested retail prices) for face shields are good but the lack of official public guidelines on product quality and proper labeling to protect consumers can corrupt the system. Suppliersm manufacturers, and importers of these items should be under close watch.
