Filipinos are Ready for a Marcos Comeback after EDSA Fails to Gather 3 to 6,000 Supporters

EDSA

acting workshop

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the government has appropriated funds to commemorate the EDSA People Power revolution last February 25. The President has no attempt to diminish the significance of the uprising that toppled the Marcos dictatorship, he added. Dr. Rene Escalante, Chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, however, cannot issue a more accurate estimate between 3 to 6 thousand attendees. Despite this, magnified news reach overseas media using a collection of images or images from small gatherings in different areas. Does the unpopular EDSA signify that the Filipinos are ready to have a Marcos back in the national post? Would it be Gov. Imee for Senator or Bongbong Marcos for Vice President?

[VIDEO]: Support for the EDSA People Power Commemoration seems to be waning, the NHCP is unable to give a clear answer if the target of 3000 to 6000 people was reached.

The President’s Choice

Du30 skips the 32nd Edsa People Power commemoration and chose to stay in his hometown Davao City. This is the second time the President misses the event. Roque justifies this by saying; “the declaration of February 25 as a national holiday stays,” despite the absence of Duterte in the event.

Essence of EDSA

The 1986 Edsa People Power that topples the late President Ferdinand Marcos’ regime is important in history because it was a  “bloodless” revolution, Malacañang said. This shows the former leader’s sacrifice for the sake of his countrymen. He has the heart not to use the military forces loyal to him to avoid Filipino casualties.

Bongbong Marcos’ Electoral Protest

The recount on March 19 for Bongbong Marcos’ electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo is fast approaching. As this happens, uncertainties arise in many areas. The Supreme Court justices for the first time are ganging up against their Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. They recommend that she take an indefinite leave of absence so as not to influence the proceeding but she insists on staying on. Sereno is an appointee of former President Noynoy Aquino.

Imee Marcos for Senator

Ilocos Norte’s Governor Imee Marcos discloses that the family decides for her to run in the national elections since her brother’s protest can take time. She can very well eye for a Senatorial post. Earlier, Robredo’s Camp hopes that Bongbong Marcos runs for Senator to make the case against the Vice President moot and academic. However, the former Senator clearly stresses that he is pursuing the election protest and will never stop until it is proven how they cheated him.

Wondering about the Netizens’ Reactions on Robredo’s Darkness Speech via Social Media?

Social Media

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Presidential spokesman, Atty. Harry Roque cites Gallup International polls that show the Philippines as the third happiest country in the world. He also shows the Philippines at the fifth highest nation in the economic optimism index. He also stresses the Social Weather Stations surveys indicating that 96 percent welcome the new year with hope and fewer Filipino families consider themselves poor. These facts are contradictory to the statement of Vice President Leni Robredo saying that the country is now in darkness. Netizens fury are evident via Social Media. Here are some from Facebook:

Bongbong Marcos: Recount Must Proceed Despite Supreme Court CJ Sereno’s Plight

Supreme Court

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

In an interview, Bongbong Marcos said that the recount for his election protest against Leni Robredo must proceed regardless of whether or not the Supreme Court Chief Maria Lourdes Sereno will resign or get impeached. He assures the public that abandoning it is not an option for the 2018 Senatorial election because he is certain he’s the Vice President. Just recently, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque issued the call that says; Sereno should resign and save the institution from “further damage.”

[VIDEO]: Bongbong Marcos nagsalita na sa Impeachment ni CJ Sereno

Probable Cause for Impeachment

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque issued the call as the House committee on justice prepares to meet on Nov. 20 to determine if there is probable cause to pursue impeachment proceedings against Sereno. Roque explained that the judiciary might not survive another removal of a chief justice through impeachment. He refers to the 2012 ouster of Sereno’s predecessor Renato Corona during the Aquino administration. Corona was impeached for not declaring all his wealth in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth or SALN.

The President Wants to Remove the CJ

Asked whether President Duterte shared his view on Sereno, Roque said, “Of course, the President wants her removed altogether, by all means.” Last month, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Andres Bautista, but he stepped down as chairman of the Commission on Elections before the chamber could forward his case to the Senate for trial. During the Aquino administration, the House also impeached Merceditas Gutierrez. She resigned as ombudsman instead of facing the Senate impeachment court.

.

Case Background

The impeachment complaint against Sereno, filed by lawyer Lorenzo Gadon, stems from her alleged failure to declare P37 million in professional fees as a private lawyer representing the government. This is in the case against Philippine International Air Terminals Co. Inc (Piatco), builder of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.

Not Abandoning Protest

Bongbong Marcos knows that Robredo’s camp hopes for him to run as Senator so that his electoral protest is deemed moot. He said that doing so is an admission that he was not the winner of the Vice Presidential race. Since he is confident that he could have won if not cheated, there’s no way that he will abandon it. In fact, he is calling for the immediate recount.

Bongbong Marcos as Vice President can Clear Out ICC, Local, and Foreign Threats against Du30

ICC

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

The new Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque is the only Philippine lawyer allowed to practice law at the ICC as a human rights crusader. He hopes to be able to advise the President directly regarding the manner and methods for the drug war. The international case against Du30 is the last straw of the opposition to take him down. Meanwhile, on foreign relations, the US President decides to extend his trip to Asia, a day more in the Philippines to coincide with the East Asia regional summit. He warns China anew that “warrior nation” Japan could take matters into its own hands if the threat posed by North Korea is not addressed. Du30’s strategies with the US, China, and Japan are obviously working but his detractors can’t settle with that not until Bongbong Marcos wins the electoral protest against VP Leni Robredo soon.

ICC as Last Resort

Roque said that the ICC is the “court of last resort,” and that there is no evidence that proves Du30 ordered killings to be carried out by the so-called Davao Death Squad (DDS). The case pertains to the alleged violations during his stint as Davao City mayor. The ICC will only exercise jurisdiction “if local courts are unwilling or unable to do so.” Parties have to show that a case filed in the Philippines did not succeed before it can go to the ICC, Roque added.

Not Missing the East Asian Summit

Trump left Joint Base Andrews and is bound for Hawaii. From there he will travel on to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. The American President unleashes a barrage of invective comments against political foes. This even includes his own Justice Department, which is investigating his campaign’s ties to Russia. He also announces during departure that the marathon trip is extended to include an East Asia Summit in the Philippines, which he had been slated to miss.

Japan as Warrior Nation

“Japan is a warrior nation, and I tell China and I tell everyone else that listens, I mean, you’re gonna have yourself a big problem with Japan pretty soon if you allow this to continue with North Korea,” Trump said. President Xi Jinping has been “pretty terrific” on North Korea, and that “China is helping us,” he added. The Chinese leader chides from Trump for failing to rein in Kim. China implements tougher UN sanctions against North Korea instead. That warms up Xi’s relationship with the US leader. North Korea in July launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles apparently capable of reaching the US mainland, according to its leader Kim Jong-Un as a gift to “American bastards.”

Bongbong Marcos’ Take

Bongbong Marcos clearly said that Du30’s enemies would only stop attacking the President when he becomes Vice President. He added that those who are against the Filipino leader cannot bear him having to replace Du30 as President. it is not a secret that there is some kind of Du30-Marcos understanding even before the election 2016. In fact, most of the President’s controversial but effective moves follow the principles of the late President Ferdinand Marcos. The people are anxiously waiting for the recount date from the Supreme Court.

Roque: Leni Robredo Don’t Know What she Is – must be Removed for Political Stability

Roque

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Kabayan Party-list representative Harry Roque said Leni Robredo does not have a clear picture of what she wants to be. This is actually the case when a political figure just acts as a mere puppet. They can never be consistent like the late president Corazon Aquino. At one time, Robredo was actually molded like the deceased Aquino to win the Vice Presidency as the poor widow of a distinctive politician.

Youtube video by; ABS-CBN News
[VIDEO]: The Kabayan Party-list representative believes Robredo does not know what role she wants to play in the Du30 administration.

Communication Failure

Leni and the President Duterte actually have one thing in common. Both of them do not have people who are managing their communications. Neither of them is guided by a team of PR practitioners who ensure that they will be protected even from their own mouth. They do not have communications teams that already see the damage before it’s even done. Their respective communications teams can just argue that they are doing their jobs but it doesn’t look like it.

Addressing the World

Robredo and her team knew that her message during the “Human Rights Challenge: Responding to the Extrajudicial in the Drugs War” would be watched by the world. Speaking in English, she celebrates the fact that the world and its human rights advocates had their eyes on the Philippines. This apparently gives her courage and hope. On top of that, she was also addressing attendees to the 60th United Nations (UN) Commission on Narcotic Drugs annual meeting in Vienna Austria. This levels up the stakes as she inevitably feeds the UN and the international community’s already very worried about the drug war in the Philippines.

Roque: What Lawyers Should Do

There’s no doubt that Robredo hoped that the grimness of the situation and the magnitude of the problem through her pronouncement can land on higher authorities – but as a lawyer, she could have done the right thing as dictated by the laws of the land. She could have filed cases if the human rights violations she mentioned actually happened. Since she still occupies the second highest position in the country, she has the budget and resources to do that. At least, she should exercise her duty as the VP first even if her legitimacy is still questionable.

Out to Destroy the President

House Deputy Minority Leader Harry Roque agrees with pro-administration legislators that the impeachment case against the President will simply go down the drain. Roque, himself and international and constitutional law expert, explains that Du30 could not be held liable, or impeached, for acts before he became president. Let alone the allegations over Benham Rise. Robredo actually is much easier to impeach. By not refraining from attacking the president, the perception that she wants to become president urgently will never go away. After all, she’s still the constitutional successor of the president. So, since she created political instability, she must be removed as soon as possible.
