Democracy in Makati: Abby &Jojo Binay Tandem is for Imee Marcos

democracy
By: Elena Grace Flores

Despite the lost footages online, many remember that Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos who runs for Senator joins the ribbon cutting in Makati. It was during the Consumer’s Welfare Week 2018 at the Makati City Hall. She hails the leadership of Mayor Abby Binay and her Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo. Now that former Vice President Jojo Binay announces support to his daughter, things get clearer than ever. The Binay patriarch is supportive of the Marcoses regardless of his human rights lawyering during martial law. This is contrary to his other daughter’s stand. Senator Nancy Binay seeks another term alongside her brother, Junjun who opposes the incumbent Makati mayor. Democracy is evident in the commercial city because people get to vote their bet within the family. z

Two Sets of Binays in Makati

Abby Binay and Jojo Binay are obviously in line with the idealism of Bongbong and Imee Marcos. While Nancy Binay is often heard speaking negatively against them. She fights alongside with brother Junjun who runs with Monsour del Rosario as District 1 Representative opposite her father and sister. Aside from sibling rivalry, many can tag this as pro and anti-Marcos bout.

From Jojo to Imee

On the other hand, the campaign ad of Imee Marcos depicts that of Jojo Binay’s “We are like this in Makati.” She recently launches “We are like this in Ilocos Norte! The governor who is now a senatorial candidate talks about the price of rice in her province in this video. Definitely a classic advertisement straight from Jejomar Binay’s portfolio in the 2016 elections!

Democracy in Makati through Election

Abby in an interview confesses that has differences with older sister, Nancy. The mayor has always been independent of her family. It is quite a surprise when her father shows up during her certificate of candidacy filing versus brother Junjun. Prior to this Jojo already said that he would live it to the people’s choice. They have to vote among his two children. It is democracy in action.

Sibling Rivalry

A Win-Win Situation for the Binays

Abby and Junjun may divide the votes in Makati. However, it is a different case when the father runs alongside one. Most residents just love him. Nevertheless, the line up for the race only highlights the siblings as the top two contenders of the mayoral post. Perhaps, this can also determine the Marcoses’ return to power. It’s becauses whoever wins is still a Binay. http://www.new.carelinkwebpr.com/2018/11/gov-imee-marcos-is-a-leader-who-unites-political-parties-as-she-runs-for-senator/

Gov. Imee Marcos is a Leader who Unites Political Parties as she Runs for Senator

Gov. Imee Marcos who runs for Senator joins the ribbon cutting of Consumer’s Welfare Week 2018 at the Makati City Hall. She hails the leadership of Mayor Abby Binay and her Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo. Marcos explains that there’s not much difference in managing a progressive commercial district compared to being a governor in a small province in terms of public service. However, it is obvious that the city has more funds and her territory only has a larger area. She also jokes about the Yabuts, the good and the bad.

Inflation Treatment

Gov. Marcos prides herself in initiating or bringing back the Kadiwa system that allows direct trade from the producers themselves to the direct consumers. This eliminates the added costs of the agents in between thus lowering the costs of the basic commodities. She wishes to distribute their processed meats to the city hoping that the buyers can also benefit from the affordable prices.

Local Trade

Since her province, Ilocos Norte is a producer of vegetables and other crops, she aims to have trade relations with Makati for these raw products in a major way. Makati is no doubt the commercial district of the Philippines and a model for a successful city, she said. It would be a boost for her products to be directly distributed to this highly developed urban area.

Alliance with the Du30s

It is widely known that Marcos forges an alliance with the Hugpong political party of the President’s daughter, Davao Mayor Sara Du30. She also defends the Filipino leader by saying that there was no such thing as militarization under the Duterte administration. She points out that the military officials appointed in various government positions were no longer in active military service.

Friendship with the Binays

It was also in the news that Gov. Marcos met with Senator Nancy Binay to thank the latter for filing a resolution for the Senate’s electoral fraud investigation during the 2016 elections. The revelations during such hearings put Bongbong Marcos in a good light. Now, she shows support to the incumbent mayor of Makati. This is despite the Binay siblings’ rivalry in the mayoral position in 2019. The situation is not really surprising because of the fact that even the Binay patriarch, former Vice President Jojo Binay is not worried about it. Eventually, one of his children would surely be elected regardless.

Uniting Political Parties as Senator Bet

Earlier, Mayor Abby Binay said during a forum at Malate, Manila, answering questions whether UNA will form an alliance with Mayor Du30’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP). “Historically if you look at my dad, he is always not aligned particularly with ruling parties,” she added. Nevertheless, as a supporter of Hugpong, Gov. Marcos, can definitely bridge the cooperation of the two parties by simply being friendly and cooperative with both. After all, they are only against the yellow-minded stalwarts.

Jojo Binay Retains Alliance with Bongbong Marcos as he Runs for the Congress

Congress

By: Elena Grace Flores

Former VP Jejomar or better known as Jojo Binay has his eyes set for Congress in the 2019 elections. Joey Salgado, Binay’s spokesperson confirms this on Monday, September 24.  His daughter, Mayor Abby Binay is also going to run with him under the United Nationalist Alliance for the same position. Another daughter, Senator Nancy Binay is the president of UNA with the family patriarch serves as its chairperson. The latter’s comment on former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile’s revelation to Bongbong Marcos is used to malign the ongoing Binay-Marcos alliance by the mainstream media. Enrile earlier said that there were no arrests made due to political beliefs during the martial law regime. The eldest of the Binay siblings stresses that the differences of perspectives are simply situational.

Rags to Riches Story is Still Hot in the Congress

With Binay’s rags-to-riches story, he garnered lots of support and made it as vice president in 2010. He then aimed higher but unfortunately lost as a presidential candidate. He finished 4th with 5,318,249 votes.

Reelectionist for Mayor

Consequently, Abigail Binay takes up after his father as Makati City Mayor. Furthermore, she also says that she will run for reelection in 2019. This was publicized as early as August of 2018. Michael Camina as Makati City Government Spokesperson also confirms this.

Kid Peña Tries his Luck Again

Former Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña is likely to be Abby’s opponent again according to Salgado. Consequently, Peña seems to be already going around the district before the official campaign period, as shown on his Facebook profile.

Binay Supports Bongbong Marcos

In the 2016 elections, UNA initially offered Bongbong Marcos the slot for vice president. Despite coming from different political parties, Binay is in an alliance with Marcos. He justifies this alliance by saying that Bongbong is not his father. Furthermore, both Abby and Bongbong were endorsees of the INC.

Controversial Alliance

The alliance of Binay and Marcos is controversial because of the political history of the two parties. Binay was even imprisoned during Martial Law as a former human rights lawyer. Furthermore, Binay was also one of the closest allies of Cory Aquino and challenged the alleged dictatorship of Marcos with her. According to political analysts, the Binay-Marcos alliance can strengthen the force against the government’s opposition in the Congress. This is why the yellow media is exerting efforts in misleading the public using Senator Binay’s comment.

Binay’s Backing Marcos: Not for Election but for the Future

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
Outgoing Vice President Jejomar Binay is a human rights lawyer who fought for the rights of the people abused during the Martial law years. After 27 years, Congress passed a Marcos compensation law, a legislation that orders the former strongman and his family liable for human rights abuses under Martial law by providing P10 billion remuneration payout for the alleged victims’ executions, enforced disappearances and torture whether Marcos is guilty or not – since he was the president when these atrocities happened.

Manila Times wrote: “The best assumption is the goodness of the man,” Binay said in defense of senator Marcos. The Marcoses are back in power. Former First Lady Imelda Marcos is a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ilocos Norte. Her daughter Imee is the governor of Ilocos Norte. Binay said he wants a presidency that is unifying and healing, citing that it has been done in the past as evidenced by the good diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Japan. “That chapter is over. We have to move on,” the vice president said. Binay, however, admitted that there are ghosts that haunt people forever despite not knowing the truth about the real root of their sufferings.

Binay understands that martial law victims cannot easily erase doubts – but it’s all over. Binay got his wishes of having a unifying president in Duterte – and better yet, a stronger and tougher ally of Bongbong Marcos that could deliberately lead the people into knowing the truth about the best president Philippines ever had!
