The world is indeed round as the popular Filipino saying goes. Those accused of corruption in the past are now having the time of their life with presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte’s coming into power – who in the first place vowed to topple corruption in the country.
Many questioned Representative Mark Villar’s appointment into Duterte’s cabinet as DPWH or Department of Public Works and Highways secretary whose father Manny Villar was a victim of media propaganda accusing him of the C-5 anomalies that favored his Real Estate projects. Cynthia Villar’s (Mark’s mother) popular comment on the rumor was: As if he needs it!
The outgoing administration’s strategy on suppressing the Villars did not help much in building new infrastructures for public service. Perhaps it is now Duterte’s time to show to the public that people who are publicly prosecuted via the media to ruin their political chances can be a blessing to the economy or country in general. Come to think of it. Where will Duterte get the huge budget for these new public facilities if there’s no Manny Villar funding them? Perhaps a good move, don’t you think?

Some people might think that giving a tax-free privilege to the second highest paid boxer in the world is ridiculous but for many lawmakers, particularly in the Philippine congress, this has been long overdue – not just for Manny Pacquiao but also for the rest of our Filipino athletes. So far, the government did not have any substantial incentive to personalities who are giving honor to our country. This is the least we can do for them. Check this news:

MANILA – Valenzuela City Rep. Magtanggol Gunigundo wants to give his colleague, Sarangani Rep. and boxing champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao a lifetime tax exemption.
This, after Congressman Elpidio Barzaga filed a resolution asking to probe the Bureau ofInternal Revenue (BIR) for Pacquiao’s tax problems, and after Congressman Lito Atienza filed a bill seeking to grant tax perks to athletes who win prizes overseas. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/12/05/13/lawmaker-wants-lifetime-tax-exemption-pacquiao
Many years back, Senator Manny Villar once introduced Senate Bill No. 1104 (see this link: http://www.senate.gov.ph/lisdata/85987152!.pdf) that will give a tax-free benefit for athletes who are doing well but this was not acted upon during that time. It’s good news that this time, Manny Pacquiao’s fellow congressmen are initiating it – because before an athlete gets into the top, he or she will have to go through sacrifices in life while practicing discipline at the same time. Basically what every Filipino must do to be successful in his or her field. Let’s support this bill!
