Pimentel Father and Son’s Opposing Sides on Marcos’ Burial

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
PDP-Laban’s chair emeritus and former senate president Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel made it known to Pesident-elect Rodrigo Duterte that if he insisted to bury former President Ferdinand E. Marcos into the Libingan ng mga Bayanim he should change the name to Libingan ng mga Sundalo.

He knew however that he cannot convince Duterte despite his plea to bury him instead in Batac, Ilocos Norte Marcos’ hometown – where he is loved and honored by many, given that he fought bitterly against martial law during Marcos’ regime.

They blamed the thousands of activists jailed, killed or went missing during those era to Marcos despite being triggered by Ninoy Aquino who used media propaganda to discredit the strong leader. It was disclosed by numerous human rights lawyers at that time that the publicized killings of innocent victims were maneuvered by Marcos’ political enemies to use the people’s outrage in toppling him. As outgoing president Jejomar Binay has said; it was Cory Aquino who wanted the Filipinos to suffer so that they will blame Marcos. Pimentel’s son “Koko” Pimentel III also declared that he would not oppose Duterte’s plan.
