Wilfredo Keng’s Lawyer Retaliates to the Denouncement of Leni Robredo on Maria Ressa’s Arrest

Leni Robredo

Atty. Joseph Banguis, the lawyer of Wilfredo Keng explains that his client’s case with Maria Ressa is personal and nothing to do with politics. This is after the presumptive Vice President Leni Robredo denounces the arrest and overnight detention of Ressa. The VP who faces an electoral protest filed by Bongbong Marcos said; “We denounce this in the strongest terms.” She implies that the government is behind such action that would force journalists to follow what they want. Banguis reminds the public that Ressa’s slight inconvenience is nothing compared to the misfortunes she caused to his client. z

[VIDEO]: Wilfredo Keng’s Lawyer Denies the Palace’s Hand on Maria Ressa’s Case.

The Rule of Law is Followed

Rappler CEO Maria Ressa fails to post bail Wednesday night and stays at the NBI. The Palace releases a statement on the issue. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Maria’s case is not an issue of freedom of expression. This is contrary to Robredo’s statement. She denounces the arrest. There are different reactions to the arrest here and abroad. One thing is certain that the government follows the rule of law. This is why Ressa did not escape her rightful arrest, added Panelo.

The Victim’s Side

Keng’s lawyer is aghast when loud criticisms are everywhere in the mainstream media with regards to the progress of their case since 2012. Rappler’s pronouncements on the alleged involvement of his client with the late Chief Justice Renato Corona whom the Aquino administration removes through an impeachment proceeding causes a big blow to the business of his client. His reputation is also in question when the online media implicates him with their illegal drugs stories that they vehemently deny. The threat on his life is one that exceeds all sufferrings.

A Curse from the Grave

Many believe that Corona’s death due to a heart attack during his prosecution brings a curse to the Liberal Party. Despite their media propaganda using the mainstream press networks under their control. The LP bets for the Senatorial race in 2019 remain unpopular. Worst, the ranking of the existing reelection seekers from their party continue to slide down. One example is Senator Bam Aquino’s rank down that pushes the position of Gov. Imee Marcos up.

Robredo’s Statement

Ressa is a veteran journalist and critic of President Rodrigo Du30. She was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents who served her arrest warrant in her office in Pasig City at 5m on Wednesday, Feb 13, 2019. Robredo comes to the aid of the libel case defendant and said: “It’s saddening. We denounce it in the strongest terms”. It seems that the presumptive VP has shown the people that she goes to the extent of siding criminals, offenders, and unlawful people in general just to discredit the President and his allies.

Political Harassment by Leni Robredo?

Leni Robredo also said; “Today, there’s political harassment because of expressing opinions; opposing certain policies becomes an excuse for suppressing the freedom of not just members of the media but also of those who dare to speak out.” This clearly causes division in the country. The supposed second leader of the country only shows that she is not serving the people – but the entities that gave her the title regardless of the people’s will.

Can the Death of Supreme Court CJ Corona be Avenged by Belgica’s Cases against Ex-Pnoy, etc?

senator

By: Elena Grace Flores

Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona died of cardiac arrest. He certainly died of a broken heart. Corona is decent man falsely charged by the Aquino administration. He tried to fight a war he could not win. Consequently, he was removed from office as what then-President Noynoy Aquino wanted. Only three voted to acquit Corona and they were former Senators Joker Arroyo, the late Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Bongbong Marcos. Now, However, Greco Belgica as the Presidential Anti-corruption Commission Commissioner as well as TJC President files malversation complaints against ex-Pnoy and other officials. If it can be proved that the senators who acted as judges in the impeachment trial of the late CJ were “bribed” through the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), then his removal would be null and void. That would definitely restore his legacy.

[VIDEO]: Former President Benigno Aquino III and several other officials are facing 272 counts of malversation for their alleged involvement in the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP). Truth and Justice Commission President Greco Belgica filed the complaint at the Office of the Ombudsman Monday. Belgica is also a commissioner of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Committee.

Ombudsman Case to Avenge the Late Supreme Court CJ

The Truth and Justice Coalition filed 274 counts of malversation against various officials, former President Noynoy Aquino among others. This is in connection with the DAP funds of 2011.

Not an Attack Against the Opposition

Belgica, however, says in a statement that the complaints should not be construed as an attack against the opposition. However, the names of the other officials who served as respondents aside from Aquino are Butch Abad, who was the former Budget and Management Secretary. Mar Roxas, who was the former Interior and Local Government Secretary. Joseph Emilio Abaya, who was the former Cavite Rep. and House Appropriations Committee Chair. Senator Franklin Drilon, who was the former Senate Finance Committee Chair. Senator Antonio Trillanes. Mario Relampagos, who was the former Budget and Management Undersecretary. Lastly, Director Yolanda Doblon.

Pinned Down Respondents

Among the senators, only Drilon and Trillanes were named as respondents by Belgica. This is despite the fact that other senators and congressmen received DAP funds as well. To quote Belgica, “It just so happened that the evidence gathered by the coalition has pinned down the named respondents. Note that the complaint also refers to several John Does.” Furthermore, he adds, that Abaya and Drilon as the finance heads of both branches of legislature directly participated in the malversation scheme to bribe the aforementioned lawmakers for the removal of the former Supreme Court Chief Justice Corona. Roxas, on the other hand, had clandestine meetings with the senators.

Ghost Projects

Implicating Trillanes was the alleged ghost projects that he implemented. Quoting Belgica, “The amnesty, ghost project and the project not listed in the Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce website are matters that distinguish Senator Trillanes from the rest of the DAP recipient senators who voted for the conviction of CJ Corona.”

Malversation of Public Funds

The grounds for the malversation complaints as quoted from Belgica, “because there was no law authorizing the cross-border transfer which in itself is a blatant violation of the Constitution.” He adds that the funds were influential in the impeachment and conviction of Corona. This is also corroborated by the privilege speeches of senators Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla. Belgica says that 4 days before the impeachment of Corona, 124 congressmen received their DAP funds.

Tribute to Serafin Cuevas

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

In the passing of this great lawyer, Atty. Serafin Cuevas, I want to voice out my appreciation to this wonderful person who defended ex-Chief Justice Corona from start to finish of the case. Although Corona did not win his struggle, you can really see in the hearings that Atty. Cuevas was very brilliant in what he do. It’s not the judgment that matters here. It’s the real personalities of the people involved that came to light during the proceedings. In the case of Atty. Serafin Cuevas, it is obvious that the man does not only have brilliance, but also the heart of a good defender. For sure, the result will be different if he was the judge for the case. Let’s celebrate his life:
