Opinion: Microsoft argued that the law allowing the government to confiscate computer data on third-party computers and barring companies from telling contacts that they are targets for investigation against the constitution. That made sense. Read the full report here:

Microsoft vs Government Law

WASHINGTON — Technology, media, pharmaceutical and other companies, along with major corporate lobbying groups, filed legal briefs on Friday in support of a Microsoft Corp lawsuit that aims to strike down a law preventing companies from telling customers the government is seeking their data.
Friday was the deadline for filing of friend-of-the-court briefs by nonparticipants in the case. The filings show broad support for Microsoft and the technology industry in its latest high-profile clash with the U.S. Justice Department over digital privacy and surveillance.
Microsoft’s backers included the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers, Delta Air Lines Inc , Eli Lilly and Co, BP America, the Washington Post, Fox News, the National Newspaper Association, Apple Inc, Alphabet Inc’s Google, Amazon.com Inc, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and many others.

Microsoft filed its lawsuit in Seattle federal court in April, arguing that a law allowing the government to seize computer data located on third-party computers and often barring companies from telling their customers that they are targets is unconstitutional.

The Justice Department argues that Microsoft has no standing to bring the case and the public has a “compelling interest in keeping criminal investigations confidential.” Procedural safeguards also protect constitutional rights, it contends. A Justice Department spokesman declined comment on Friday’s filings.

Microsoft says the government is violating the Fourth Amendment, which establishes the right for people and businesses to know if the government searches or seizes their property, in addition to Microsoft’s First Amendment right to free speech.

Smart Business brought by Internet of Things

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
The prediction that 212 billion things will be connected in 2020 to deliver the $8.9 trillion industry market will put Smart Business powered by the Internet of Things as one of the major industries in the world. We are done with accepting systematic machineries or tools that are proven effective and helpful to us in coping for the fast-phased lifestyle. Home appliances, automotives and many more are now very advanced but their innovation does not stop there.

The Internet of Things aims to develop innovative products in less time, no resources wasted and no room for damages. This will place smart business in a very strategic spot – where inventions will not only be tools but solutions for expensive cost of living. They will also detect dangerous circumstances before they actually happen – making this world a better place to be.

The two platforms of IoT are geared towards enterprise for running industries and to consumers for the best service ever – using systems connected by the internet and accessible through the cloud. It is expected that countries embracing the change early on will benefit in this global economy progress by 2025. Take note that this is not all about getting a sophisticated form of internet provider. This is a mindset that must be incorporated from the educational sector – to make it easier for the public to understand what are in store for the industries and work front in general.

Being connected is not only the crucial thing in running a smart business. Having the kind of infrastructure that supports the development of this sector to create sustainable jobs is actually the most important thing. Therefore, before smart things can talk to each other, let’s go back to school and see if we are making our future experts fully equipped with the knowledge on how to develop strategic business enterprise using Internet of Things.

Describing Internet of Things

welcome
By: Elena Grace Flores
The internet by far is one of the greatest inventions in the 20th century – but the discovery just didn’t stop there. It keeps on evolving despite already making information access very fast and comfortable. This enhances the development phase of the needs for human beings. Somehow, despite of the progress – glitches are still identified by experts. Anything on the internet that needs human interventions like encoding data, uploading images and others can still delay things or confuse real-time assessments. The Internet of Things came about to supplement humans’ weaknesses. Read this for further explanation:

Internet of Things (IoT)

By: WhatIS.com

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a scenario in which objects, animals or people are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to automatically transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. IoT has evolved from the convergence of wireless technologies, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and the Internet.  http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/Internet-of-Things

The idea is to assign an IP address to a thing to monitor, control and feed data to accomplish tasks without any human involvement. Basically, each enabled thing can communicate with another object to allow engagement should the task requires. This sounds like intelligent robotics scenario – but seems necessary for the rapidly changing world – to conserve waste, time and resources or as long as this will not go out of hand!

Stresses Brought by Technology

carla2

By: Gene Carla Chua

&bbsp;

Technology StressesTechnology has made our lives more convenient for years. From washing clothes to sending letters, technology has affected us greatly and it has made our lives so much easier. However, technology could also be causing us stress. Studies show that humans spend over 3 days in a year waiting for files or other things to load in their computer. In Tibet when you send a letter, it is normal to not get a reply in 30 days or even more, but when you send a text or a chat message and not get a reply in 30 seconds, you get angry. Here are other instances when technology has caused us stress;

Socializing

• Wherever we are and whatever we are doing we always feel the need to post a status about it, Tweet it, and post a picture in Instagram. Most of us send more sms’s than we are talking. Imagine just doing what you are supposed to do, without reaching for your phone first. This causes us to waste time on things that we are not really supposed to do, and with that we run out of time for finishing whatever it is that we are really needed to do.

• Whenever we post anything and someone likes or retweets it we feel really good, but what about when no one does? Some people feel lonely or unwanted. Sounds like I’m overrating? This actually does happen.

The iPhone, café addiction

• Try walking in a café and observe what everyone is doing, most of them if not all have an iPhone, Black Berry, or a smart phone in hand, tweeting or looking for the newest apps. So if these people do this in a café, then we could probably say that they do it everywhere. This is the problem with technology, we cannot live without it. What happens when we lose our phones? Well, TRAGEDY.

Memories

• We used to have scrapbooks and photo albums filled with our precious memories. These days pictures are saved in our phones, and digital scrapbooks have been created. These are all saved in your phone, laptop or tablet’s internal memory, but there will always come a time that we have to replace these gadgets. Worse-case scenario is that they break and those memories will be irretrievable.

News

• Ten years ago we need to wait for the evening news before we get in the know as to what happened during the day. Today we get news notifications from our phones and there are apps dedicated to informing us with what’s happening. We need that constant feeling that we know what is happening in the world and this causes clutter. We are filled with information that we really don’t need, plus not all news is good.

Lastly –

Gaming

• A lot of people are addicted to games. Some even spend all day without doing anything productive. Excessive gaming has caused death in Korea, but that’s not just the reason as to why it is causing us stress. Games stimulate our brain. Stimulates us a little too much that when we look for something fun to do we require more powerful activity. This makes us bored.

• This does not apply to gaming. We tweet and Facebook too much as well. It’s like a drug, we do it too much and get addicted then when we stop we feel so low. When we get the time to relax and be idle it doesn’t feel as good.

Technology is now a vital part of our lives but this does not mean that we have to embrace the stresses it causes us also – we have to learn how to stick to the healthy limits when using the products of technology for our own advantage.

It is assumed that the curricula movement that involves the introduction of technology educational gadgets will prepare children to embrace new technologies.  With the onset of modernization, children have no problem adapting to these high-tech learning tools. Parents are the ones left behind – especially those who are not so in depth with change. But the thing is – it is helpful to the students when their parents are in sync with their line of activities and thinking. Here are steps that must be undertaken to face the new millennium:

You will be surprised how easy and helpful they can be. Most mobile phones have tracking devices where you will be kept informed of your children’s movements from one place to another without you bothering to call them. Normally they resent being monitored through calls. Cell phone tracking and cell phone spy will do the job for you.
  3. Familiarize yourself with the terminologies with regards to your gadgets. Children nowadays are so into them that sometimes they are surprised if not annoyed that their parents don’t know or understand what they’re saying. Age should not be a hindrance to being updated. One gadget can be used for both mobile phone and internet. Bringing laptops with them will not be necessary if they only need the internet access.

Schools now are also imposing to use mobile gadgets in place of text books. E-books are widely used in classes and research is done through surfing on the net. Activities are even performed online using a computer tablet. So, be positive with the fast emerging technical advancements and adapt to them too. In demand professionals are abreast with the latest technology.  It makes work less tedious and results come out faster. Reaching out to people will be on a larger scale especially when doing marketing online. If you monitor people in the workplace, you can also make use of the cell phone tracking or cell phone spy capabilities of your mobile gadget.
