Suicide Rates Soar in England and United States

Suicide Rates Soar

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

News Sky featured the rising suicide rates in England. This is not different from the United States as per CNN’s report. Read through:

Charities say mental health provision for thousands of people at risk of taking their own lives is not adequate.

The number of suicides in England and Wales has hit a 15-year high, according to the latest figures.

A total of 5,199 people took their own lives in 2015 – a rise year on year over the last five.

The number of men killing themselves is also three times higher than women, although the figure has dropped slightly since 2014.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day.

This year there is an emphasis on the high number of men who take their own life.

Nick, who doesn’t want to be named, was on the verge of killing himself when he rang a charity for help.

He describes feeling “feeble, weak and pathetic”, saying “not existing felt like the best option.”

He was saved by contact with Suicide Crisis which runs a centre in Gloucestershire.

“They used the words ‘we want you live’, ‘you deserve to live’ and those are the words I suppose you want to hear.”

“I remember feeling frightened, stupid, selfish because I didn’t want to be here anymore.

“I had sons I had a grandson and in your right mind you would never leave these people. I wasn’t in my right mind.”

Charities say mental health provision dedicated to those at risk of suicide is not adequate.

Joy Hibbins, who set up a walk-in Suicide Crisis centre in Gloucestershire, wants to see more similar centres all over the country.

“We’re the only crisis centre of this type where we provide not just a centre for people to come but we also do home visits to people. We’ve been contacted by individuals from all over the country saying ‘we need a Suicide Crisis centre here’.

“It’s not just in one town but it’s happening in every city, in every town. People are saying this is really what we need.”

U.S. Provokes China by Flying and Sailing Non-stop over South China Sea

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
US Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson recently visited the navy base in northern China despite the increasing tension between Americans and Chinese forces manning the South China Sea. He made it clear to his Chinese counterparts that they will not stop flying and sailing over South China Sea for the purpose of patrolling the disputed area as marshals for the implementation of international laws.

There will be no retreat for the American navies as they continued to send maritime vessels where international laws permit them to. This is a show of superiority over China that rejected the ruling from the Hague that they do not have sovereignty in all of the territories they claimed based of their alleged historical evidences.

The vast seas in South China now serve as a huge theater showing displays of spectacular armaments of war – and the friction can escalate in time. At the rate it is going, the conflict looks like it’s between China and the United States. However, due to the geographic location, if war would eventually happen, it’s likely that the battle ground would be Palawan, Philippines. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte also assured America that the ruling will not be compromised in favor of China. Negotiations might take place but it will be under the terms of the Philippines which China so far disagreed on.

United States is Ready to Counteract Attacks by China against South China Sea Neighbors

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
After being dragged on Twitter for lying (though technically she didn’t), Taylor posted this statement to her Instagram. “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that bitch’ in his song? It doesn’t exist because it never happened. You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called ‘that bitch’ in front of the entire world. Of course I wanted to like the song. I wanted to believe Kanye when he told me that I would love the song. I wanted us to have a friendly relationship. He promised to play the song for me, but he never did. While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ‘approve’ a song you haven’t heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination. I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009.”
It is ridiculous how China behaved in the last few days with their foreign minister announcing that they will pursue their interests in the South China Sea despite the recent ruling that rejected their claims in a peaceful way – but building up their military presence in the disputed area at the same time. They also rejected talks with the Philippines if the Filipinos would insists on their sovereignty over the West Philippine Sea. This has prompted the United States to organize the defense designed to help the smaller countries around the disputed areas.

Reporter, James Holbrooks reported: In a congressional hearing on Wednesday, former Director of National Intelligence and retired Navy admiral Dennis Blair told the panel that the United States should be prepared to use military force to oppose Chinese aggression in the South China Sea. “I think we need to have some specific lines and then encourage China to compromise on some of its objectives,” Blair, who headed the U.S. Pacific Command while in the Navy, said at the hearing. The admiral’s recommendation came the day after a United Nations tribunal invalidated China’s claim of territorial rights to nearly all of the waters in the South China Sea.

He added: The U.S., citing the territorial dispute and security concerns raised by its allies in the region, have for months been sending warships into the South China Sea as a check against Chinese hostility. Beijing, acutely aware of the military buildup off its coast, has publicly warned the U.S. it’s more than ready to defend against provocations. “China hopes disputes can be resolved by talks… but it must be prepared for any military confrontation.”

Beijing Blamed the United States for Stirring up South China Sea War

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
China will exhaust all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty over the South China Sea and will exercise their right to set up an air defence zone, after being rejected by international tribunal’s ruling denying on its claims to the energy-rich waters.

Chinese perceived the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague as “puppet” of the United States after it ruled that China had breached the Philippines’ sovereign rights by endangering its ships and fishing and oil projects that it has interests on. Beijing in return blamed the United States for stirring up trouble in the South China Sea and now leading to war, where territorial claims are happening with China against its neighbors; Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.

“China will take all necessary measures to protect its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests,” the ruling Communist Party’s official People’s Daily said in a front page commentary on Wednesday. The case has been seen as a test of China’s rising power and its economic and strategic rivalry with the US. — Reuters as published by Tribune India

Duterte Careful on Next Move as the World Watches him over South China Sea

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
China announced after the ruling at the Hague which favored the Philippines – that their territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea shall under no circumstances be affected by those awards bestowed to Filipinos. They vowed to oppose and will never accept any claim or action based on those awards. However, they are lenient on the freedom of navigation and overflight issues and that China was ready to keep resolving the disputes peacefully through talks with the concerned countries. The Chinese are now inclined to pursue talks with the Philippines.

However, Philippine president, Rodrigo Duterte, who is noted for his unpredictability is now under close watch as to what his next moves in the next few days will be. That would be the basis on how the United Nations would respond to China’s stubborness in rejecting the decission. On the other hand, the President Duterte is reminded that the decision on whether or not to share resources for a peaceful solution is not an exclusive decision to be made by the executive because that would entail sharing of national territory. The executive has no sole jurisdiction over it. Congress must concur either in the form of a treaty ratification on the part of the Senate or to create a new law to accommodate the issue.

Beijing has the support of Russia and Saudi Arabia but has also garnered backing from smaller African nations like Niger and Lesotho, as well as Palestine, Afghanistan and Togo. Vanuatu, a Pacific island nation of fewer than 300,000 citizens, also supports Beijing. The Philippines has been backed by the US, UK, France, Japan and others – but change could happen if Duterte will decide to engage on a joint exploration of resources with China. A very critical issue as far as the neighboring countries and America are concerned – who has been against that notion from the start. Thereby, starting talks with Vietnam should Philippines shot them off for whatever reason as the Philippine President showed indifference towards the U.S. based on his terrorism remarks – accusing the United States of importing insurgencies into their country by declaring war with Iraq that killed its leader, Saddam Hussein over human rights violations measured by U.N.
