Can PI Break Brisbane’s Rights to Host Pacquiao-Horn Boxing Rematch?

Australia’s third-largest city, Brisbane secures the rights to host Pacquiao-Horn boxing rematch in November. It beats major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. The guarantee to pay Manny Pacquiao’s talent fee win or lose was its packed 55,000-seat Suncorp Stadium last July 2. However, Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said that they have an agreement with MP Productions to hold the event at the Philippine Arena in December.

DOT’s Call

The DOT eyes December 9 as the fight date. It is a week before the birthday of the boxing legend. It agrees with the MP Productions thereby disputing Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk’s announcement that the boxing rematch for Brisbane is on in November.

Tough Negotiations

“I have had a meeting earlier today which has confirmed that Manny Pacquiao will definitely be in Brisbane this year for a rematch with Jeff Horn,” Quirk had said. Quirk added that Brisbane Marketing, the city council’s major events subsidiary negotiations with promoters Top Rank and Duco Events.

Beating a Boxing Legend

Horn shocks the world with a controversial victory over the heavily-favored Pacquiao last July 2. The former eight division champion and Senator is referred to as the nice guy of the boxing arena. Even the audience in Brisbane applauded him when he accepts his defeat like a gentleman contrary to the complaints made by many boxing experts that he should have won.

Nothing More to Prove

Horn’s camp may be right saying that you have to be a legend to beat one. Can’t please everybody. All they need to do is to prepare for the next big event. The Senator has reached a point that he does not have to prove himself anymore as a boxer. Perhaps, just to say that despite his retiring age in the ring, he is still on par with the rising new generation champions.

UN’s Agnes Callamard should Apologize now that CHR Ruled that there are no State-Sponsored EJKs

Agnes Callamard

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Dr. Agnes Callamard, United Nations rights rapporteur expressed her disgust on Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo. She reacted by saying; Stop extrajudicial killings instead of requesting media to “tone down” reports on them. Callamard shows to be very irresponsible with her words. Like Leni Robredo, she also maligned the Philippines by believing false reports and worst, promoting it through media interviews.

Wanda Teo’s Plea

Teo said in a news conference in Bangkok, Thailand, that reports about the killings related to the President’s war on drugs were not good for tourism. She said that the video on the drug killings sent by Leni Robredo to a United Nations’ side event painted the Philippines in a bad light.

Agnes Callamard is Hypocrite

Stop extrajudicial killings?  She does not even have the guts to land her feet on the Philippine soil to investigate the truth? Why is Callamard maligning the Filipino people and the country? IS she really from the UN or a biased supporter of the Liberal Party? How can she prover her claims that there are state-sponsored killings as she insinuates?

Amnesty International’s Report is based on Hearsays

Callamard was referring to the London-based Amnesty International’s 2016 report that accused the PNP of paying police officers to kill alleged drug offenders. It concluded that majority of the drug-related killings were systematically planned and organized by authorities and can constitute crimes against humanity.

CHR’s Findings are based on Facts

CHR Commissioner Gwen Pimentel-Gana speaks on the sidelines of a CHR-sponsored forum on women and children victims of the campaign against narcotics saying that there was no official policy ordering the Philippine National Police to kill suspected drug pushers and users. Based on the law, this is needed to determine that the administration is involved in such killings. She also said that they are not Amnesty International that based their reports on rumors. They always support their findings with facts.
