The Philippines Games and Amusements Board said that it only wants to protect the integrity of boxing. It cites the miscalls by the referee and judges. Based on this, five anonymous, competent Judges from different countries were asked by the WBO to review the bout without sound. The results show that Pacquiao won 5 rounds while Horn won 7 rounds.

[VIDEO]: Senator Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday urges the World Boxing Organization to act on a protest letter sent by the Games and Amusements Board, the Philippines’ regulatory body for boxing.

Unfair but Cannot Change

THE World Boxing Organisation re-scores the Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn welterweight title fight. This is because of the contentious unanimous decision awarded to the Australian challenger. However, it was clarified that there is no plan to change the result. The WBO just responded to the request of a Philippines government department to review the fight. Pacquiao accepted the decision but said that the referee was unfair.

Re-Scoring Results

The re-scoring tallied directly with two of the judges on the night. They both gave the 115-113 score for Horn. The third judge, Waleska Roldan, scored the Australian 117-111.

Promoter not Surprised

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum indicates that a re-match with Horn is possible for November or December this year. Pacquiao was also open to this as confirmed by him during an interview after the fight. He is always welcome to the Australian audience because of his graciousness after his defeat.

End of Contract

The Philippine Senator, on the other hand, claims that his promotional agreement with Arum is at an end and he also considers retirement at 38. He is actually old already for the ring but Arum leaves the re-match decision to Pacquiao.

The discretion of a referee or judge cannot be reversed, except in a case of fraud or violation of laws which is not the case in Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn fight. This is the reply of World Boxing Organization on GAB’s letter that highlights the miscalls of the referee that even Manny Pacquiao said that he is obviously protecting Horn.

Outrage on Social Media

Fans express their outrage at the decision on Horn’s victory over Pacquiao. They flood social media with their displeasure. This prompted the Philippine Games and Amusements Board to reach out to the World Boxing Organization. It is the sanctioning body that supervised the Pacquiao-Horn title clash.

Decision is Final

The Games and Amusements Board Facebook page state that GAB Chairman Abraham Mitra, along with commissioners Eduard Trinidad and Matthew Gaston, sent an email to WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel. They asked for a ‘thorough review’ of the Pacquiao-Horn fight.

No Question on Horn’s Win

Pacquiao respects the decision but insists that GAB’s letter should get an explanation of WBO on the fight’s decision to preserve the dignity of boxing. WBO only responded to emphasize that the only time a referee or judge’s decision can be reversed is in the case of a violation or fraud. This is not the case in the Pacquiao-Horn match, they said.

Victory for Surpassing Low Expectations

Pacquiao lost to Horn on the scorecards 117-111, 115-113, 115-113. Referee Mark Nelson nearly stopped the fight after Horn got a lot of damage from Pacquiao. A controversial video went viral on this one over the internet. Horn became the new WBO welterweight world champion in the end that discouraged multitudes of boxing fans. Well, sportsmanship is gone. Boxing is clearly just for entertainment.
