Typhoon Paeng’s Degree of Devastation was Unexpected

Unexpected Degree of Devastation

At least 67 people died as continuous heavy rain,  flooding, and landslides continued in Maguindanao del Norte. The death toll is still rising at the time of writing. The degree of devastation was not expected because typhoon Paeng came in slowly at first. However, it causes tremendous disasters overnight.

Major Deaths and Missing People

The landslides and flooding killed 10 people in Datu Blah Sinsuat town, seven in Upi town, and 50 in Datu Odin Sinsuat town, the capital of Maguindanao del Norte. At least 11 people were also declared missing in the flood, and 31 others suffered injuries in Datu Odin Sinsuat.


Three abaca farmers died when they were trapped by floodwaters in Libacao town in Aklan province last Thursday, October 27. The three farmers were not able to leave their area of work prior to the rush of highland waters into the swampy abaca area.
