The recent NSC Meeting suddenly became the gathering for former Philippine Presidents at Malacañang as convened by President Rodrigo Duterte. This first ever happening was not seen coming as all parties are throwing mud at each other during the campaign period – but most politicians knew that those so-called media wars were only temporary and they need to be civil if not unite for the sake of the country.
It was remembered that Estrada was not so happy with his then Vice President Arroyo who replaced him after being convicted of plunder despite her giving him pardon. Whereas Aquino was in the spotlight because everybody knew that he imprisoned Arroyo just to shut her up during his administration. Despite all those frictions, the meeting went well and may all grudges involving these personalities will be behind us.
Ex-Presidents Benigno S. Aquino III, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who is now Pampanga congresswoman, Joseph Ejercito Estrada who is now mayor of Manila, and Fidel V. Ramos who has been appointed as the country’s special envoy to China, were all present at the Aguinaldo State Dining Room in Malacañang Palace where the NSC meeting was held. Except for Aquino, Arroyo, Estrada and Ramos were also present during the new President’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) recently at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City.
