Congress will not Release Ilocos 6 Even if Imee Marcos Appears during Hearing

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Rep. Johnny Pimentel said that Gov. Imee Marcos’ appearance in the Congress and participation in the hearing would shed light on the issues they are investigating. However, he added that “If she answers questions, that doesn’t mean that it resolves the Ilocos 6’s culpability.” Their cases are allegedly different.

No Release

The release of the six Ilocos Norte government officials still detained at the House of Representatives is not dependent on the participation of Governor Imee Marcos in the inquiry into the provincial government’s alleged purchase of motor vehicles anomaly, Pimentel. Gov. Marcos cannot answer for them,” he added.

Under Extreme Stress

“Ilocos Six,” or the Ilocos Norte provincial government officials namely; Pedro Agcaoili, Evangeline Tabulog, Josephine Calajate, Eden Battulayan, Genedine Jambaro and Encarnacion Gaor, are detained at the Batasan Pambansa complex because they refuse to answer according to the interrogators’ wishes. Queries of the panel about the purchase of the motor vehicles during previous hearings were answered to the best of their knowledge.Due to the length of time, they asked that the House allows them to return to their office to double-check the facts.

Bongbong and Imelda Marcos’ Pleas

Bongbong Marcos initially brought the CA order to release the Ilocos 6 to the Congress. It was followed by fellow Rep. Imelda Marcos’ humanitarian plea. They are both ignored. Instead, the House threatens the namesake with obstruction of justice on his advice to her sister not to show up during the July 25 hearing.

Defenders of the People

The Executive, legislative, and the judiciary are supposed to be co-equal branches to preserve democracy. It is obvious here that some legislators are undermining the equality with the justices. The people are asking. Who are the defenders of the people now? Any words from the executive branch?

  1. I believe that if there is a case against them (the six) then a case should be filed and turned over to the judiciary since they alone can investigate, litigate and judge the merit of the case. The legislative body should respect the role of the judiciary. Kaya mabagal ang takbo ng kasi kasi ang daming pakialamero na politiko. Mga walang respeto sa judicial system ng ating bansa. Sinisira ninyo ang imahe ng ating judiciary sa ating bansa.

  2. The judiciary’ main function s to check abuses of executive and legislative branches of the government. The CA noticed that the legislative abused their power in d detention of d 6 fr Ilocos Norte for almost a month now . The 6 Ilocanos have the constitutional right to remain silent. So we the people r citizen r onfused with what the legislature is doing and we r now starting to dislike those involved with d case and plead that the judiciary should also b respected
