Misinformation can really poison minds. Kim Jong-un’s threat is not even comparable to Marcos’ Martial Law. For most Filipinos living on Guam, packing up is out of the question. “Kim Jong Un? He’s nothing. President Du30 is fiercer than him,” said Risalito Recina, a truck operator for a local construction company. He then said that the country is far more dangerous than where they are now because of the constant killings that allegedly revive the terror during the Marcos era.

Not Leaving Guam
Many Filipinos in Guam like Vene Bourbon came to Guam, with his wife Emma, in 1996. He resigned from his job as a reporter for People’s Journal. “This has been our home and we have no plans of leaving,” said Bourbon, who works with the Guam Department of Education’s support staff.
Provoked by the US
Provoked by the American President’s “fire and fury” warning, North Korea renewed its threats to attack the US-controlled island, Guam. It plans to launch four test missiles in the middle of the month which is anytime soon. Pyongyang said the four Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missiles would fly 2,085.7 miles in 17 minutes, 45 seconds.
Philippine President’s Approach
Non-Negotiable
North Korea firmly said that its program for nuclear weapons and the intercontinental ballistic missile is non-negotiable. It criticizes the Asean member states for rebuking the isolated communist country but not the US for its “hostile policy” towards Pyongyang. So, Guam and even Japan that is nearer to the latter are still not safe from Kim Jong-un’s wrath. Also, there are many Filipinos that can attest that Marcos’ Martial Law was the era of discipline where only the criminals are fearful of their lives. The rest of the citizens lived in peace and abundance.
