Most Filipinos do not trust $China unlike Rody

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
Aligning a new alliance with another country requires a referendum. How would President Rodrigo Duterte convince Filipinos? A recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey shows that 55 percent, or five in 10 Filipinos, have “little trust” in China.

[VIDEO]: The recent Trust Ratings Survey shows that most Filipinos do not trust China and detest President Duterte’s praising them. They trust the United States more.

Lowest Trust Rating

China receives the lowest trust rating of the seven countries included in the SWS survey with a ‘bad” net trust rating of minus 33.

Highest Rating

Respondents gave the highest trust rating for the U.S., despite Duterte’s criticism of the Philippines’ long-time ally the U.S. and U.S. President Barack Obama.

Survey Period

SWS interviewed 1,200 adults for the survey, which was conducted September 24 to 27, with a margin of error of ±3 percent. The results were published late Monday on BusinessWorld online.

Intention is Good but too Drastic

The President has all the good intentions in dealing with China as far as the economy and foreign relations is concerned. He has his own agenda in doing it differently. He wants to be independent from the Americans – but perhaps not a good idea to turn to China at this point.

Marcos Influence

It is true that the late President Ferdinand Marcos was hoping to open partnership talks with China. It is also noted that the U.S. is strongly against that. The story then is far too different from now. We already experience patronizing their cheap and below standard products. Can trains and rehabilitation centers be safe with the quality of work that China is noted for?

Trust is Everything in a Partnership

How can you sleep with the enemy? You can’t. So, President Duterte will have more work to do as soon as he decides to pursue his dealings with China. May God help him.
