Lowering Down the Country’s Electricity Cost
Lowering the country’s electricity costs is the advocacy of Hon. Rodante Marcoleta. Speculations had it that he may be appointed as Justice Secretary but it didn’t happen. So, he might as well be the Energy Secretary. Bongbong Marcos still awaits for his response.
System Loss
EPIRA law already provides the mechanism to lower electricity costs but there’s no law to implement it, said Marcoleta. The Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) mandates the Energy Regulatory Commission (Commission) to promote competition, encourage market development, ensure consumer choice, and penalize abuse of market power in the restructured electricity industry. So, Marcoleta would like to investigate why there are charges in the electricity bill that says system loss.
Local Franchise Tax
The Malampaya proceeds can be the source for the payment of the local franchise tax. This should not be charged to the consumers. Things like this needs to be scrutinized. Therefore, Meralco and other electricity providers must be ready to answer all these queries.
