Mayor Isko’s Message to the Youth during Andres Bonifacio Day
To the Youth: Criticize but No Violence
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno urges the youth to speak out but never resort to violence. This is a blow to the party lists like the Makabayan Bloc and Gabriela. Some of their members are identified by the government to be members of the NPA or the country’s insurgents’ group. This also comes after Joma Sison thanked him for his support. However, this is not a crime. According to the 1987 constitution, people are free to express their different interests.
Andres Bonifacio’s Principles
The mayor speaks at the 157th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio. He said that they should emulate Bonifacio’s principles as a way to show love for the country. To criticize the government is okay but violent acts are ot acceptable, he said.
Many of the mayor’s admirers are pushing for him to run as president in the 2022 elections. He can follow the foot prints of President Rodrigo Duterte who was the mayor of Davao before winning the presidency. Nonetheless, he is a supporter of President Duterte and he’s more likely to respect whoever the president endorses for the top position. Besides, he still have to nail down a slot at the Senate – just like before.
