P to VP: I will wash your dirty linen in Public if you Run for President!

By: Elena Grace Flores

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte threatens the presumptive VP, Leni Robredo to wash her dirty linen in public if she runs for president.

History Repeats Itself

It was not so long ago during the 2016 elections that former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III swore that he will do everything in his power to block Bongbong Marcos’ win. Marcos was the arch-rival of the sitting VP. Now that the 2022 presidential election is fast-approaching, another president, a staunch ally of the Marcoses swears that he will wash Leni Robredo’s dirty linen in public if she runs for president. What comes around, really does go around.

Not Just Commenting on a Fake News

Robredo said that the President’s anger towards her was triggered by a fake news. She denies saying or insinuating the social media trend; Where is the President, at the height of a powerful typhoon Ulysses. However, the president quotes an official message from Robredo’s camp on more or less related topic. Such annoyance can’t happen overnight. Most people understand where the president is coming from. In the first place, President Duterte just tolerates her guts after accepting her proclaimation despite the popular election protest against her by Marcos.

Telling Lies through the Media

If social media is for fake news, the mainstream media are also the messengers of lies regardless of who’s saying it. Unlike bloggers, journalists must tell both sides without their own opinions. However, it is now very obvious that the headlines on their stories are already conclusive. The tone of their reporting also signify their stand on the incident. Where does responsible press reporting goes?
