Greta Thunberg becomes famous when she passionately heads a global youth-based movement against climate change. Their “climate strike” catches attention worldwide. This amazes Bongbong Marcos to the verge of becoming speechless. The efforts of the 17-year-old Thunberg is just remarkable. She started protesting outside Sweden’s parliament in 2018. She joins protesters on College Green again in the UK.

The Youth’s Plea on Climate Change
With the advent of climate strike around the world where the world’s youth have called to account previous generations for the harm WE have brought to their patrimony, our legacy, our Earth.
The Philippines is 4th in the World
The 2015 report of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction is Marcos’ reference. The Philippines is fourth in the world among countries hit by the highest number of disasters. This is due to climate change. The super-typhoon Yolanda lessons must enable Filipinos to build structures that can withstand natural disasters, suggested Marcos. Typhoons and floods are frequent in the country, he added. He notes that many of the casualties of Yolanda even lost their lives in evacuation centers. Collapsed structures during the super typhoon and storm surge drowning were the culprits.
Improve Disaster Preparedness
Marcos urges all government agencies to improve their disaster preparedness. Distributing relief goods and rescuing people during times of natural calamities must be efficient enough. The Archdiocese of Cebu echoes is in line with this idea. They are working with partners to equip rescue transport systems and evacuation centers in communities with solar panels in case other fuels can’t work under extreme conditions. These efforts must be done nationwide.
