Australia’s third-largest city, Brisbane secures the rights to host Pacquiao-Horn boxing rematch in November. It beats major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. The guarantee to pay Manny Pacquiao’s talent fee win or lose was its packed 55,000-seat Suncorp Stadium last July 2. However, Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said that they have an agreement with MP Productions to hold the event at the Philippine Arena in December.

The DOT eyes December 9 as the fight date. It is a week before the birthday of the boxing legend. It agrees with the MP Productions thereby disputing Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk’s announcement that the boxing rematch for Brisbane is on in November.
“I have had a meeting earlier today which has confirmed that Manny Pacquiao will definitely be in Brisbane this year for a rematch with Jeff Horn,” Quirk had said. Quirk added that Brisbane Marketing, the city council’s major events subsidiary negotiations with promoters Top Rank and Duco Events.
Beating a Boxing Legend
Horn shocks the world with a controversial victory over the heavily-favored Pacquiao last July 2. The former eight division champion and Senator is referred to as the nice guy of the boxing arena. Even the audience in Brisbane applauded him when he accepts his defeat like a gentleman contrary to the complaints made by many boxing experts that he should have won.
Nothing More to Prove
Horn’s camp may be right saying that you have to be a legend to beat one. Can’t please everybody. All they need to do is to prepare for the next big event. The Senator has reached a point that he does not have to prove himself anymore as a boxer. Perhaps, just to say that despite his retiring age in the ring, he is still on par with the rising new generation champions.
Top Rank Promotion chief Bob Arum said the rematch between Australian Jeff Horn and Manny Pacquiao might happen later this year. Arum now coordinates with Pacquiao’s adviser Mike Koncz in the United States. Arum explained that they have not yet decided on the venue of the rematch. Since Pacquiao is also a Senator, the boxing rematch with Horn must happen during a recess of the Senate.

“We’re trying to figure out when will be the recess of the Senate is. So, we can schedule the fight accordingly. We have to first find out what dates are available. Then, we will decide where we are going to hold the rematch but most probably in Australia again,” Arum said.
No Problem with Arum
Pacquiao denied rumors that he’s not in good terms with the Top Rank Promoter. “I don’t have any problem with Arum. It was the referee and the judges, who had problems during the fight. I don’t want to talk about it anymore,” said Pacquiao.
Arum said throughout the Pacquiao-Horn fight preparation that the Australian posed a real threat to the Filipino champion. “They had this perception that they fed him, that he was going there to pick up a paycheck, that Horn wasn’t a credible fighter. And the more I told them that, the more they disbelieved me because they thought I was saying that to sell tickets. I’m not selling tickets to them,” said Arum.
Pacquiao to Decide
There is a rematch clause in Pacquiao ‘s contract with Arum but he said but it’s only Pacquiao can say if he wants the rematch, or whether he wants to fight again. Both Horn and the Filipino fighter already said after the fight that they are open to the rematch. Pacquiao has no problem to do it again in Australia where he was warmly welcomed by the Australians.
The Philippines Games and Amusements Board said that it only wants to protect the integrity of boxing. It cites the miscalls by the referee and judges. Based on this, five anonymous, competent Judges from different countries were asked by the WBO to review the bout without sound. The results show that Pacquiao won 5 rounds while Horn won 7 rounds.

Unfair but Cannot Change
THE World Boxing Organisation re-scores the Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn welterweight title fight. This is because of the contentious unanimous decision awarded to the Australian challenger. However, it was clarified that there is no plan to change the result. The WBO just responded to the request of a Philippines government department to review the fight. Pacquiao accepted the decision but said that the referee was unfair.
The re-scoring tallied directly with two of the judges on the night. They both gave the 115-113 score for Horn. The third judge, Waleska Roldan, scored the Australian 117-111.
Promoter not Surprised
Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum indicates that a re-match with Horn is possible for November or December this year. Pacquiao was also open to this as confirmed by him during an interview after the fight. He is always welcome to the Australian audience because of his graciousness after his defeat.
End of Contract
The Philippine Senator, on the other hand, claims that his promotional agreement with Arum is at an end and he also considers retirement at 38. He is actually old already for the ring but Arum leaves the re-match decision to Pacquiao.
Great Filipino Boxer and Senator Manny Pacquaio never have a single ill word against the victorious, Jeff Horn after their boxing fight in Brisbane. He admits the referee’s partiality, Horn’s rough style but respects the decision that made Australians admire him too. His fan base worldwide is so huge that any unfavorable verdict against him is subject to social media bashing. This is a true measure of his popularity.

It was a rough, physical fight for Pacquiao who receive much pressure from the head bangs and elbow blows of Horn. He is also correct that referee Mark Nelson did not do enough to stop Horn’s “dirty” tactics. Horn was uber-aggressive and threw elbows and forearms. He also initiated plenty of physical contact with Pacquiao. Nelson can handle it better but he did not. No warnings from him at all which is supposedly his job.
Social Media Bashing
Pacquiao has the most loyal fan base in the world. Some fans are often so blindly loyal they can’t accept that he can lose. Timothy Bradley admitted a few years ago that he almost committed suicide after the trolls and online harassment he received from Pacquiao fans. This is after his controversial win over Pacquiao in 2012. Pacquiao’s use of the phrase “set up” in the recent fight with Horn is troubling. This is why he felt the need to step in and recognizes Horn’s toughness that contributes to his victory.
That fight was called a robbery in favor of Pacquiao. The online harassment of Horn and his pregnant wife has begun. As a God-fearing man, Pacquiao cannot allow this. He knows quite well what happened to Bradley in the past. His fans would always root for him. He, therefore, made a public statement quickly – telling people that such “dirty” tactics are acceptable in boxing – for as long as the referee knows how to control it. He also explained what he meant by “set up.”
Pacquiao certainly knows the importance of the Australian market for the boxing industry. The Battle of Brisbane held at Suncorp Stadium was the biggest fight ever in Australia. It was overwhelmingly profitable in terms of turnouts and sponsorships. Despite losing, Pacquiao has a guaranteed payment of $10 M vs Horn’s $ 0.5 M. The Filipino fighter also does not need to prove anything anymore. He has made a lot of money and got the respect of most boxing enthusiasts and experts. As a philanthropist, he wants to preserve the integrity of boxing and urges fans not to bash the boxers but the glitches in the process to improve any anomalous systems. He’s also looking forward to the rematch later this year.
The discretion of a referee or judge cannot be reversed, except in a case of fraud or violation of laws which is not the case in Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn fight. This is the reply of World Boxing Organization on GAB’s letter that highlights the miscalls of the referee that even Manny Pacquiao said that he is obviously protecting Horn.

Outrage on Social Media
Fans express their outrage at the decision on Horn’s victory over Pacquiao. They flood social media with their displeasure. This prompted the Philippine Games and Amusements Board to reach out to the World Boxing Organization. It is the sanctioning body that supervised the Pacquiao-Horn title clash.
Decision is Final
The Games and Amusements Board Facebook page state that GAB Chairman Abraham Mitra, along with commissioners Eduard Trinidad and Matthew Gaston, sent an email to WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel. They asked for a ‘thorough review’ of the Pacquiao-Horn fight.
No Question on Horn’s Win
Pacquiao respects the decision but insists that GAB’s letter should get an explanation of WBO on the fight’s decision to preserve the dignity of boxing. WBO only responded to emphasize that the only time a referee or judge’s decision can be reversed is in the case of a violation or fraud. This is not the case in the Pacquiao-Horn match, they said.
Victory for Surpassing Low Expectations
Pacquiao lost to Horn on the scorecards 117-111, 115-113, 115-113. Referee Mark Nelson nearly stopped the fight after Horn got a lot of damage from Pacquiao. A controversial video went viral on this one over the internet. Horn became the new WBO welterweight world champion in the end that discouraged multitudes of boxing fans. Well, sportsmanship is gone. Boxing is clearly just for entertainment.
Only the camp of the new WBO Welterweight title holder, Jeff Horn and some Australians, of course, are convinced that it was not a “robbery” win for him as claimed by many boxing personalities. However, they already said no to a Manila rematch but the new champ is ready to defend his title anywhere but not in the Philippines.

[VIDEO]: Jeff Horn wins unanimously against Manny Pacquiao…HOW THE HELL??? Oh, and Stephen A. Smith does not agree with this at all.
Sports journalists, basketball stars players, fellow professional boxers and popular actors aired their sentiments via Twitter after the shocking decision that Horn won the fight. They are unanimous in declaring that Pacquiao got robbed in his opponent’s country, Australia.
Horn snatched the WBO welterweight title from Manny Pacquiao at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. Horn won with scores of 117-111 and 115-113. Pacquiao said that there are many miracles that happened. Like the referees’ biased actions and the decision itself. However, he does not plan to make an appeal so as not to ruin the name of boxing. He is leaving that to the people.
Double Boxing Robbery
Sports writer Robert Flores of ESPN said the scores for the Pacquiao-Horn fight were “terrible.” “Manny is robbed twice,” he said. He refers to the earlier fight with Timothy Bradley as the first robbery. “Manny Pacquaio got robbed… Ridiculous,” the former American football tight end George Wrighster III also said.
Pacquiao is Clear Winner
Filipino fighter Brian Viloria admitted that the match was tight but disagreed with the unfavorable decision against Pacquiao. “Close fight, but Pacquiao won that fight,” Viloria said. “I love the sport. But sometimes it kicks you in the teeth when you least expect it,” he added. NBA player Karl-Anthony Towns of Minnesota Timberwolves and retired NBA star of Los Angeles Lakers player, Kobe Bryant, plus actor Samuel Jackson were all disappointed over the fight like many Filipinos.
The title robbery that the world just witnessed between Jeff Horn of Australia and Senator Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines is somewhat similar to Leni Robredo’s win over Bongbong Marcos. This is during the 2016 Vice Presidential race. The corruption is just too obvious that even international boxing commentators call it a highway robbery.

A Chance to Get Up
VP Leni Robredo’s message after Manny Pacquiao’s questionable defeat aims to inspire people who are in poverty. They are knocked down by circumstances but she urges them not to lose hope. As always, she has good intentions but her affiliations and actions are not just enough to convince people of her sincerity. Nonetheless, she is better this time that she chooses to be neutral or playing safe on certain issues.
The People’s Champ
Win or lose, the fighting Senator is always the People’s Champ. He is noted for his clean and genuine boxing capabilities. Every time he loses, he gained admiration. Pacquaio is already a legend in his field. This is why he is still paid $10 million regardless of how it was. He dedicates this fight to the suffering people in Marawi.
Horn’s victory is actually not a glory to Australia. In fact, the country is now the subject of pranks over the internet. There are many cases that highway robberies are reported to the police. Only to find out later that the callers are referring to the Horn-Pacquiao match result.
Thief in the Night
If Robredo’s win comes like the thief in the night, Horn’s victory is right on your face. Imagine watching closely every minute of it and feeling confident that the people’s champ is in the lead. Only to be dismayed that the announcement of the winner is the opposite of what is expected by many.
Teddy Atlas who has been on the field for 45 years concludes that boxing is a corrupt sport. He said that Jeff Horn displays great qualities as a budding boxer during the fight with Manny Pacquiao except his victory. Pacquiao is clearly robbed of the win. The new Welterweight title holder gets a lot of criticisms.

Great Robbery Fight
It is still a great fight not because it is fair but because there was drama. A 38-year old teacher who dreams of winning against the great Pacquiao proves that dreams can come true. Even if it is in the form of a highway robbery. Horn gets $ 500,000 against his opponent $10 M
Pacquiao understands the style of Horn but speaks strongly against the referee. Elbow contacts, head bang, and embraces could have been interfered by the referee but nothing was done. Figures don’t lie. 182 of Paquiao’s punches connected compared to 92 of Horn’s.
Trophy for Trying Hard
Atlas said to Horn to his face that he lost the fight to Pacquiao in Brisbane. He added that one gets the trophy for winning and not for trying. Horn respected his opinion but claims that he felt that on the 9th round, he was really winning.
Manny Pacquiao did not expect that Horn can survive all throughout. He intends to knock him out on the 9th round but he survived. Pacquiao admits that Horn is a tough guy but what’s really unexpected was his victory. As most experts say, it’s definitely a bad decision. People’s confirmation of Pacquiao’s evaluation that he is the right winner of the fight is good enough for him. He just wishes that boxing will not get a bad name out of this robbery fight.
Senator Pacquiao or the great boxer Manny Pacquiao quickly gains respect from the public whenever he interpolates in the senate to defend his stand on certain issues. This time, he urges the senate to pass a boxing bill. This is to establish a commission that can focus on boxing and other combat sports since these are dangerous activities. Pacquiao is clearly attesting based on personal experience that Drilon obviously cannot care less because he can’t feel the intense need.

[VIDEO]: DRILON KINONTRA SI PACQUIAO SA PLANO NITONG BUMUO NG BOXING AGENCY
Drilon on Strengthening GAB
Drilon said that there is no need to create a separate commission. The existing Games and Amusements Board or GAB could be strengthened instead. He is certain that GAB can perform the functions required to safeguard the athletes of these dangerous sports. Drilon claims that he has confidence with commissioner Mitra who heads GAB but he almost cannot remember his name.
The Key is in the Focus
Pacquiao’s English is actually not bad. He can express in straight English but like many people, sometimes the right word cannot be found. His team coaches him with the word “focus” and he continued explaining his stand since many boxers ever since his early days until now are dying because of lack of proper guidance and monitoring through tougher implementations of requirements especially in medical terms.
The Tagalog Switch
It is amazing how Senator Pacquiao easily gets back to his confident self when he switches to Tagalog or Pilipino. Take note that he is a Visayan speaker but he expresses himself well in Tagalog. Pacquiao replied that his bill aims to update reviews and standards of the industry. It can then collect fees and create linkages to foreign boxing agencies. The new agency would implement stricter requirements for boxers to avoid unnecessary deaths.
It is a pity that Senator Drilon cannot understand where Senator Pacquiao is coming from. He suggests that they can provide additional funds. They can also provide them with enough manpower so that the issues can be addressed. Creating a new bureaucracy, just to address boxing mismatches, for example, is not necessary, he explains. This only proves to show that Drilon cannot only understand Pacquiao but also not concerned of those athletes who endangered their lives with the dangerous sports that they play for the country. After all, combat sports need specialized treatments and cannot be mixed with just any sports – 22 at that!
