Independence from Coronavirus

True independence is not only freedom from foreign invaders. It also freedom from all obstacles to full development. Coronavirus is not an exception. This is sacrificing our personal interests, and by uniting for the well-being of the people. We will be able to overcome the obstacles we face if we do so, Bongbong Marcos said in his vlog.

The ID System

The ID system is now an essential part of a nation. Countries with an intact identification process are able to do efficient contact tracing. Errors in giving monetary assistance are not common. This is true in Makati with their Makatizen card. The funds are conveniently made available through G-Cash for voters and yellow cardholders. Contrary to scary social media posts, the ID system can indeed prevent chaos in society.

Self-Sufficiency on Supplies

Importation may help to reduce costs but this has little to do with survival. To survive a pandemic means relying on local products for the supplies especially for foods. Truly, independence from the Coronavirus can only mean living with it. Citizens must learn to practice hygiene, social distancing, and self-sufficiency. Kindness is also a must to let these difficult times pass especially to the frontliners.

BBM Endorses Bill Gates’ CNN Interview on Coronavirus

COVID-19: Dagdag Kaalaman | Bongbong Marcos

Watching out for the Coronavirus Infection Peak

Bill Gates said that mass testing is essential to determine the peak of the coronavirus infections in a country. Since this is not done properly, the quarantine procedure or lockdown can at least prevent medical facilities from overloading and exhausting doctors and nurses.

The Importance of Immediate Lockdown

Gates also explains the importance of an immediate lockdown just like what the Philippines is doing. Although it is very tough to contain the coronavirus infection in slums where people are living closely with each other, it helps in reaching the peak quickly. Thus separating the vulnerable ones from the rest of the population for proper medical management. 33% per day of new COVID-19 cases would be hard to manage where there is no shut down.

Infected or Infecting People

The light is not at the end of the tunnel yet for the coronavirus cure. However, when the majority of the people in a country develop immunity of the virus, that marks the end of the pandemic. Most people won’t even know they have it. They can be infected and infecting people without symptoms. The immunity stage is at 60% of the population but with the lockdown, hospitals can gradually treat vulnerable patients.

Marcos-Binay: Vague Coronavirus Info Causes Panic

Marcos-Binay: Vague Coronavirus Info Causes Panic

Binay hits DOH over slow dissemination of info on COVID-19 cases

Senate Interrogation on the Mishandling of COVID-19

Senator Nancy Binay on Monday criticized the Department of Health’s (DOH) supposed slow dissemination of information regarding the confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

Viber Groups are Ahead of the Coronavirus News

Senator Binay presses of the DOH official why they cannot confirm a local COVID-19 case in an area ahead of time. She at first suspects the local transmission rumor as fake news. Only to find out in the evening that it is exactly the case. A parent of one school is said to be infected with the coronavirus thus prompting the establishment to disinfect the whole campus.

The Balancing Act of the DOH Causes Public Distrust

While Binay said she understands that DOH needs to perform a “balancing act” in respecting the privacy of COVID-19 patients and being transparent with the public, she reminded officials that they should make decisions that would benefit everyone. Senator Imee Marcos earlier urges the DOH to be transparent without causing public panic. However, putting the people in limbo drives them to anxiety.

Should a Symptomatic Person Get Tested for Coronavirus Despite No Cure?

coronavirus

Philippines confirms 2 new COVID-19 cases

Coronavirus is Here in the Country

Many Filipinos ask if one should take a test while experiencing the coronavirus symptoms even if there’s no cure yet? Two more cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Philippines, raising the country’s total to five. Among those infected was a Filipino male who had no travel history abroad. The DOH assigns a hotline for such reports but most people are hesitant.

Clearly a Local Case

A 62-year-old diabetic also tests positive of SARS-CoV-2 despite the absence of travel. He regularly worships st the Muslim prayer room in Greenhills. The place is now disinfected. He experiences coughing with phlegm since Feb 25. This is a clear indication of local contamination. The virus is here. Although the spread is a little slow compared to other countries because it’s not heat resistant. It’s now summertime in the Philippines.

Self Isolation is the Best

In Japan, people with the symptoms of coronavirus cannot get a test from hospitals. This is to protect health practitioners as well. In Thailand, it would also cost them 10,000 Baht. So, not many can afford that. Nonetheless, if one suspects to have the virus, self-isolation is important. That means, away from anybody including close family members. Treat the symptoms accordingly like the common colds, flu, and coughs. Take loads of Vitamin C to boost the immune system. A healthy diet and regular exercise are also a big plus.

Filipinos On Board the Diamond Princess Return Home as Coronavirus Fear Arises

Diamond Princess

By: Elena Grace Flores

The local government of Capas in Tarlac has some concerns. The New Clark City Athlete’s Village or NCC is the quarantine area of the Filipino repatriates from the Diamond Princess. They are set to arrive there on Sunday from Yokohama. Their fears are legitimate over the coronavirus. Precautions are in place, Malacañang assures them. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the exact number of repatriates is not yet known. Their tests must show negative results for COVID-19. Symptoms of the illness are enough to leave them in Japan. The ones who recovered can join the repatriation. Another 14-day quarantine period locally is at stake.

Coronavirus outbreak: Number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on cruise ship in Japan rises

Coronavirus Update

Cases of the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, are rising inside the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Japan. As Mike Armstrong reports, putting thousands of people under quarantine was supposed to help stop the spread of the virus, but it may have had the opposite effect.

They Want to Go Home

All the Filipino crew and passengers of the Diamond Princess cruise ship who are negative for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) express their desire to return home to the Philippines. The Department of Health (DOH) attests to this. 495 Filipinos are still on the cruise ship after the two-week quarantine period passes. The 43 Filipinos who are positive for the virus are still in the hospital.

Two Chartered Planes for the Diamond Princess Crews

Duque said that two chartered are ready to bring back the Pinoy crew and passengers. They voluntarily present themselves to return to the country. The DOH official hints that they are not discounting any possibility that some of them have a change of heart on the day of their departure. So, the figures can still change.

The Coronavirus Fears in Other Countries are Real

The Americans from the Diamond Princess had some complaints about the handling of their transfer. Their ordeal in the so-called floating prison did not serve a purpose when the negative ones have to join the untested people in one airplane. Another doctor from Germany who had the chance to inspect the ship also narrates his fearful experience of how the mismanagement of the disease on board went. The Philippines should have the courage to learn from their plights to keep the Filipinos safe.

Tourism Rehab is More Important than ABS-CBN

rehab

By: Elena Grace Flores

The ABS-CBN saga already has enough attention to continue to report on. It just boils down to having a compromise with the government. The real big problem for the economy at this point after the coronavirus outbreak is the tourism industry. With all the flight cancellation to and from the One China countries, losses are enormous. It is paramount to the tourism industry-independent families to start its rehab as suggested by tourism player, Bobby Joseph.

YouTube video by Elena Grace Flores
The Tourism Sector is Greatly Affected by the Coronavirus
Bobby Joseph explains the serious tourism losses due to the coronavirus and how to recover from the financial ruins.

Chinese Travels

Chinese travels are not only limited to tourism. The business sectors are also unstable. On top of that, the continuity of Chinese students in the country is also uncertain. The service infrastructure from the taxi drivers to hotels are experiencing the sudden drop of revenues. The situation even worsens when Taiwan and Hongkong got the ban. This is regardless of their independent status because they are prone to the contamination location-wise.

Non-Renewal Compared to Media Shutdown

Some human rights lawyers’ claim that the ABS-CBN non-renewal threat is reminiscent of martial law years. The late Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s alegged media control is only something they can pinpont to. However, the Office of the Solicitor General files a quo warranto petition before the Supreme Court against ABS-CBN already.

Oligarchs in the Country

There are currently 11 bills before the House of Representatives in support of the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN. This shows that even the upper house is infested by oligarchs; President Rodrigo Duterte hinted. He said that ever since time immemorial, the rich people who monopolize businesses are also trying to run the country. This is in line with the former President Marcos’ justification as he battles the communist rebels.

Tourism Rehab is a Priority

It’s unbelievable that a giant media network’s plight that is all-powerful and well-funded would seek the public’s opinion on their disagreement with the government. There may be a lot of people affected as well but nothing compared to the sufferings of the tourism industry dependents right now. The rehab suggested is the replacement of international trips with the domestic ones. Well, the country is no doubt the best destination during the coronavirus scare. Thanks to its heat.

Coronavirus Life-Saver: PI Tourism Figure is Grateful to Japan’s Donate First Attitude

donate

By: Elena Grace Flores

The Philippines didn’t know what to do at first on how to respond to coronavirus emergency situations. A Chinese man who collapsed in a Manila sidewalk was ignored by rescuers because of fear to be contaminated. Tourism enthusiast and founder of the 888 News Forum, Bobby Joseph discloses at the Marco Polo Hotel recently that it was Japan who made the life-saving efforts. He’s grateful to their donate first attitude before putting the blame on anyone. Kits for the first responders were distributed in time that includes a protective suit that the country obviously did not have because of unreadiness.

YouTube video by Elena Grace Flores
Japan Sent Kits for Coronavirus First Responders to the Philippines

Latvia Consul and tourism figure, Bobby Joseph is grateful to Japan for sending safety gears to the country’s medical practitioners who are in the front line for coronavirus prevention and control.

Panic Buying

Masks were sold out from drug stores nationwide. Some even used condoms to protect their hands when operating an elevator. The unknown nature of coronavirus added to the paranoia. Even the Philippine National Police was in limbo on what to do when medical practitioners refuse to help.

Economic Disaster

Joseph said that it is evident that economic ruins are at stake. Malls are empty and people do not want to spend money. It was noble however for some Filipinos who did not fail to donate masks to others who do not have. He appreciates the Japanese authorities to be able to think straight the Filipinos are panicking.

Serious Effects on Tourism

The country has 3 million tourists. 1.6 million are foreigners and 1.4 million are local travelers. While it is understandable that international travels are limited for the time being. Philippines can take advantage of domestic tourism. He agrees to President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign urging Filipinos to travel to other destinations within the country.

The Philippine Advantage

Panic can only do harm than good. Tourism-dependent people and even farmers in the agri-tourism businesses are now suffering from the drastically declined number of tourists. This is the time that Filipinos can benefit from cheaper arrangements and purchase some crops at a lower rate. One must not forget that the greatest advantage of the Philippines is the warm weather. No virus can spread quickly because they can be disinfected by the intense heat of the sun. People around the world can only hope that it will be summer very soon.

The Degree of Cebu’s Mactan Airport Coronavirus Management Shocks Taiwan

degree

By: Elena Grace Flores
Media practitioners at the 888 News Forum, Marco Polo Hotel hailed Andrew Harrison, Chief Executive Advisor, Mactan-Cebu International Airport. This is for his contribution to the proper management of the facility. Then just days after, his team is challenged by the degree of coronavirus measures that they have to implement to unwilling 78 travelers from Taiwan upon their arrival in Cebu. That surely shock Taipei. It now considers “retaliatory measures” if Manila would not immediately lift its inclusion in the travel ban, said Angelito Banayo, chairman of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office in Taiwan. There’s also a threat that the no-visa policy for Filipinos in Taiwan for tourism can be revoked.

YouTube video by Elena Grace Flores
Mactan Cebu Airport Hailed for Effective Management

Andrew Harrison explains Mactan International Airport’s effective measures in improving Mactan Airport in Cebu.

Degree of Commotion at the Airport

According to Mactan-Cebu International Airport General Manager, Steve Dicdican both Filipinos and foreigner passengers were furious after they were subjected to a quarantine arrangement. They claimed that they were not told in advance. The travelers only accepted their fate after knowing the official order, which is imposed on passengers from mainland China and its special administrative regions hit by COVID-19. Dicdican is certain that additional security forces are needed as they expect more resistance from travelers coming from Taiwan.

Part of China?

Taiwan is an independent state but the Philippines considers it part of China under the one-China policy. The Bureau of Immigration recently ordered the Taiwan travel ban. It follows the same procedures as in the previously announced restriction for China and its Special Administrative Regions, Hong Kong and Macau. Filipinos and foreigners with permanent resident visas may be allowed entry but will be turned over to the Bureau of Quarantine for assessment, Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente clarified.

Challenge of the Unknown

Harrison said that although influenza and other diseases caused by viruses have more deaths than coronavirus, the challenge is in dealing with the unknown. Therefore, personal hygiene from washing hands to temperature checks must not be overlooked. Let alone the following of the government’s quarantine rule despite causing chaos at the airport.
“The technology exists, let’s use it,” the former senator insisted.

Positioned as the Gateway of the Visayas

Aside from having direct international flights particularly from Narita to Cebu, Mactan International airport’s degree of management can’t be compromised. They positioned Cebu as the gateway to the Visayas. So, it must adhere to international standards from safety to facility maintenance. Harrison also added that although the tourism industry is badly hit by the coronavirus outbreak, it’s just a matter of time that the travel paranoia will die down because no viruses can withstand the hot weather in Cebu. Perhaps, international travelers would favor coming to Cebu alternatively to going to the banned countries because of the unfortunate outbreak. The more than 80,0000 domestic travelers are also a plus.
