Robredo camp denies ‘peace talks’ with Reds; tells Bong Go to check newsSenator
Giving Social Media a Bad Name
The Presumptive Vice President Leni Robredo’s office denies that it holds peace talks with the communist National Democratic Front. This is allegedly contrary to reports spreading on social media. Bong Go’s interview about it was reported by mainstream media. Not social media. Reactions only follow online after the said news. Why blame social media?
Not Part of It but Responsible of the Blame
Peace talks are “crucial in resolving this decades-long conflict” and “must be conducted through official, formal channels.” The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is not part of it, said its spokesman Barry Gutierrez.
Chance Interview by the Mainstream Media
Senator Bong Go, in a chance interview, said Robredo has no authority to negotiate with the NDF. That this power lies with President Rodrigo Duterte. Go “would do well to ensure that next time, he first checks that any ‘news’ he is reacting to is true and accurate. Not based on some troll’s rantings on YouTube,” said Gutierrez. Gutierrez should also check the origin of the news.
